Position Summary

Reports directly to the Director of Quality and Performance Improvement in overseeing the Hospital's Nursing Quality Improvement Program. 

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\: 

  • Investigates and follows to resolve incidents and occurrences.
  • Performs concurrent and retrospective case reviews and assures that appropriate improvement quality initiatives are taken.
  • Serves as liaison with Nursing Staff and Committees to identify areas of improvement.
  • Serves as a facilitator to assist and mentor to ensure nursing standards of care are integrated throughout the organization.
  • Data collection, validation and analysis.

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of  an accredited school of nursing.
  • RN Current license in New York State
  • Minimum 5 years current clinical hospital experience.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Experience in Nursing and Quality preferred. 
  • Ability to analyze data and create statistical reports and tables.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission and New York State 405 requirements.
  • Clinical expertise and evaluation skills, including extensive clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital including specialty areas.
  • Knowledge of legal aspects of health care.
  • Bachelors of Science in nursing degree preferred. (Under New York State Education Law § 6905 (commonly referred to as the BSN in 10), all Registered Nurses licensed on or after December 19, 2017, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within 10 years of their initial RN licensure to maintain their ability to practice in the State of New York. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods, especially during emergencies.  
  • Ability to assist with patient transfers, repositioning and physical interventions, if needed.  
  • Lifting and/or transferring patients, including those who may be physically aggressive or uncooperative, with the use of appropriate safety techniques and equipment.  
  • Handling equipment and supplies needed for emergency care.  
  • Reacting quickly to situations involving physical restraint, patient agitation, or aggression.   
  • Proving physical support in restraining or de-escalating patients if necessary.   
  • Ability to use medical instruments, perform assessments, administer medications, and manage equipment with precision.   
  • Performing tasks such as documenting patient information, administering injections, or manipulating medical equipment.   
  • Ability to maintain physical and mental alertness during long shifts, including night shifts and weekends.   
  • Capacity to manage high-stress situations with clear decision-making and physical capacity.  
  • Ability to manage the emotional and physical challenges that come with caring for patients who may be agitated or experiencing mental health crises.   
  • Must be able to respond quickly and take rapid action including using physical restraint procedures to stabilize patient in a crisis situation.  
  • These physical demands are tailored to the nature of the job, which requires a high level of alertness, physical engagement, and responsiveness, especially when dealing with patients in acute psychiatric distress.  

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: 

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services*

  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
