Job Summary:

The Trauma Outreach Coordinator is a registered nurse who functions under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager to develop and maintain the trauma injury prevention program as set forth by the guidelines established by the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center Verification Program and State designated trauma program. Additionally, this position utilizes the Trauma Registry in the development of outreach and education programs for the community and professionally within the WellStar Health System. Supports the collection of data for the Trauma Registry.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Professional and Public Education * Participates in regional trauma education and outreach efforts * Develops educational programs with other members of the Trauma Service for hospital staff and regional affiliates * Participates in Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum Coarse (TNCC) program sponsored by the hospital * Participates in Advanced Trauma Life Support program sponsored by the hospital * Participates in Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses program sponsored by the hospital * Participates in other professional education courses in trauma and critical care that may be conducted or sponsored by the hospital * Collaborates with advanced practice nurses and department specific educators to identify and mitigate education deficits related to the care of the injured patient. * Collaborates with the EMS Coordinator in supporting pre-hospital providers related o the pre-hospital care of the injured patient. * Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports related to outreach/education events Injury Prevention * Utilizes the Trauma Registry as a source for identifying injury prevention opportunities in: * Population * Mechanism of injury * Location of injury * Mitigating severity of injury and mortality * Coordinates program initiatives in public education and injury prevention efforts * Works collaboratively with the WellStar Corporate and Community Health division to facilitate public programs * Participates on the Georgia Committee for Trauma Excellence Injury Prevention Subcommittee and related injury prevention initiatives to support regional and state trauma system development * Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports related to injury prevention events and effectiveness Clinical Activities: * Attends Trauma Activations to serve as a resource person to enhance trauma team performance * Works collaboratively with the Trauma Team to assure coverage for time sensitive responsibilities/duties * Serves as a resource to patients and families as needed to ensure optimal trauma care provision to our patients * Attends Multidisciplinary Rounds with Trauma Team * Serves as a liaison to clinical areas responsible for the care of the trauma patient Trauma Registry * Maintains highest level of trauma registry validity to assure accurate program profiling, TQIP, state and internal data reports * Participates in the data validation process for the Trauma Registry Performs other work-related assignments as assigned by the Trauma Program Manager * Attends all Trauma Department meetings as requested Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support-Preferred within 1 Year or ACLS - Provisional-Preferred within 1 Year or ACLS - Instructor-Preferred within 1 Year
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course-Preferred within 1 Year
  • Adv Trauma Care for Nurses Cer-Preferred within 1 Year

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing in emergency, critical care and/or trauma care Required and Previous experience in verified Level I or Level II ACS verified Trauma Center or state designated trauma program Preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

Demonstrated intermediate to advanced computer skills. Ability to work in a team and take direction and delegation of tasks. Strong communication skills including verbal, written and presentation style. Organizational skills to necessary to develop educational opportunities for the community and trauma care providers as well.
