Are you a licensed mental health professional passionate about helping youth heal and thrive? AMHC is seeking a dedicated, full-time Therapist Consultant to join our team at the Calais Children’s Residential Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and adolescents with complex behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs in a supportive, trauma-informed environment.


Position Overview:

The Therapist Consultant plays a vital role in supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of youth residing in the Calais Children’s Residential Unit. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality, trauma-informed therapeutic services while ensuring alignment with clinical and organizational standards.


As a clinical leader and key member of the interdisciplinary team, the Therapist Consultant provides individual and group therapy, conducts comprehensive assessments, collaborates on treatment planning, and consults with residential staff to ensure a consistent and effective therapeutic approach.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing direct clinical services, including individual and group therapy.
     
  • Conducting assessments, risk evaluations, and treatment planning.
     
  • Developing and maintaining individualized treatment plans in line with agency and regulatory standards.
     
  • Consulting with staff on trauma-informed strategies and behavior management.
     
  • Collaborating with families, schools, and service providers to ensure continuity of care.
     
  • Attending case reviews, clinical meetings, and offering staff training.
     
  • Maintaining timely, accurate documentation following AMHC, licensing, and payer requirements.
     
  • Participating in crisis planning and providing clinical input during emergencies.
     
  • Serving as part of the 24-hour on-call crisis consultation service for the program.

Requirements
  •  Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
     
  • Maine licensure (LCSW, LMSW-CC, LCPC, or LCPC-C).
     
  • Experience working with youth in residential or therapeutic settings preferred.
     
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices.
     
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
