Job Description
Objective
The faculty of St George’s University School of Medicine, Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, are dedicated to upholding the mission which is, to cultivate and disseminate public health knowledge and practice through an integration of education, research and service in collaboration with communities and partners and in so doing achieve the vision of a Competent public health workforce, building healthy communities. All faculty are expected to contribute to the public health knowledge, skills and professional behavior training of the students in the MPH program.
Essential Functions
- Deliver lectures in the following courses:
- Principles of Biostatistics
- Principles of Epidemiology
- Infectious Disease Epidemiology
- Chronic Disease Epidemiology
- Research Methods & Ethics
- Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, as part of the Public Health discipline in the School of Medicine’s MD Program
- Support lecture based and integrated team-based instruction in Epidemiology for the MD program
- Engage in small group teaching, laboratory sessions, and case-, problem-, or team-based learning activities
- Develop higher-order learning objectives and USMLE-style assessment items
- Create course resources and instructional materials
- Maintain regular office hours and respond to student inquiries via email and discussion forums
- Contribute to the Learning Management System as needed
- Support Module Coordinators, Content Managers, and Course Directors
- Participate in course planning, lecture delivery, and course directorship
- Use innovative, dual-delivery teaching strategies to engage students
- Serve as a faculty advisor for MPH students
- Review and assess student work with constructive feedback
- Maintain academic records
- Provide guidance on Capstone Integrated Learning Experience (CILE) projects
- Collaborate on the design of competency-based assignments
- Identify and address student performance needs
- Complete special projects and tasks assigned by the Epidemiology Track Director or Department Chair
Research and Scholarly Activities
- Conduct public health research
- Mentor and supervise student research
- Contribute to curriculum review and innovation
- Promote continuous quality improvement in departmental courses
- Participate in academic and scientific conferences and continuing education
- Collaborate with local and regional organizations
Service
Participate in the following University activities:
- Faculty Senate
- Departmental Reviews (as required)
- Faculty Meetings (as required)
- Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)
- Administrative roles, as assigned by the Chair of the Department and/or the Dean
- Outreach efforts in the local community
Qualification
- MD or MBBS degree
- Masters level training in Epidemiology or Public Health (with specialization in Epidemiology).
- Minimum of 2–3 years of teaching experience in higher education.
- Certification in Public Health (Desirable)
