The (MSW) Social Work Supervisor provides operating support to the McLaughlin East Harlem Residence Program Director, and will ensure effective and efficient clinical services to the residents of this 51-bed residential program for young adults who are preparing to transition into independent living. The Social Work Supervisor will ensure the integration of social services into the total program. Social Service delivery is to be consistent with the philosophy of Good Shepherd Services, the function and task of the programs and in compliance with City and State mandates.

Reports to: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, McLaughlin East Harlem Residence

Location: 55 East 110th Street, New York, New York 10029

Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Exempt Position requires staff to be onsite. Hybrid Schedules are based on program needs and/or leadership approval following probationary period.

Salary Range: 72-78K based on relevant post graduate experience

Social Work Supervisors Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist Program Director with overall administration and supervision of the McLaughlin East Harlem Residence program and assume overall leadership in the absence of the Program Director.
  • Work in conjunction with the Program Director to insure close communication and collaboration between all program staff.
  • Meet regularly with Program Director to ensure overall effectiveness, integration, and integrity of the program, including periodic assessment of social service and overall program for purposes of program planning and development.
  • In collaboration with Program Director, Case Managers, and Property Manager, ensure effective intake process and maintenance of census. Collaborate closely with them around intake issues and decisions.
  • Provide bi-weekly individual supervision of four case managers.
  • Provide monthly group supervision/case conferencing of case managers.
  • Responsible for completing portions of assigned funding reports, which may include statistical, narrative, program activity and outcomes information.
  • On call availability in the case of emergencies or when program director is not available.
  • Reinforce to all case management staff agency directives and contractual mandates. Ensure that such directives and regulations are being met.
  • Oversee and monitor the implementation and development of the residents individualized service plans and goals, maintenance of case records, and data entry in Sales Force.
  • Convene, chair, and attend meetings as appropriate, including case reviews and monthly Service Plan Reviews.
  • Participate in hiring and training of all program staff. Participate in performance improvement of direct reports when needed.
  • Assess and identify service training needs of program staff and where appropriate, serve as a resource person in providing training.
  • Represent the program/agency in external meetings that would provide resources and opportunities to network with other providers.
  • Responsible for ensuring documentation in Sales Force database, other city databases, and case records meet the expectations of government funding sources.
  • Participate with Program Evaluation and Planning Department (PEP) in fulfillment of the program evaluation processes, including documentation/collection, development and monitoring of data in Sales Force and other relevant databases.
  • Participates in meeting with funding contract manager and auditors when site visits are conducted and provides information and/or feedback for follow up if a corrective action plan is necessary.
  • Oversee the diverse case management needs of a small caseload.
  • Work with residents to develop and implement individualized service plans and goals based upon the specific service needs of the resident.
  • Assist residents in making referrals to appropriate external service providers.
  • Assist in the diffusion of potential crises situations and take appropriate action in resolving crises.
  • Assist in scheduling and facilitating building community meetings and emergency town hall meetings.
  • Understand and utilize a trauma informed approach to the work with residents and in supervision of staff.
  • Committed to uphold a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.

Qualifications for Successful Social Work Supervisors:

  • Master's in Social Work Required, LMSW License Preferred. (Candidates scheduled for exam highly encouraged to apply)
  • Two years of successful experience providing services to at-risk youth in areas of assessments, individual and group counseling and development and implementation of ISPs.
  • Must have a clear understanding of the needs of young adults experiencing homelessness and a sensitivity to ethnic and cultural differences, and an understanding of the needs of the LGBTQ community.
  • History of successful collaboration with other community based agencies and organizations to enhance services for vulnerable youth.
  • Excellent crisis intervention, advocacy and problem solving skills.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to maintain required documentation.
  • Must be physically able to observe staff in their relationship with residents.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
