Job Purpose

The Social Work Supervisor is responsible for directly supervising Social Workers in order to promote and maintain optimum standards of efficiency and quality of professional social work in accordance with the agency's overall objectives and goals.

Key Responsibilities

Policy & Procedure Implementation

  • Assist in the development and updating of JCW policies and procedures
  • Ensure all subordinates are fully aware of organisational policies and procedures
  • Support implementation of policies and procedures
  • Inform stakeholders of new procedures and requirements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation 

Staff Supervision & Performance Management

  • Supervise Social Workers and Social Auxiliary Workers
  • Conduct regular supervision sessions and team meetings
  • Provide guidance, support and consultation when required
  • Allocate and monitor workloads, cases and projects
  • Conduct performance reviews and evaluations
  • Support staff development through training and mentorship
  • Develop and assess strategies and plans for cases and projects
  • Monitor transport claims and trip planning 

Administration & Departmental Management

  • Attend to calls and email enquiries where required
  • Allocate incoming correspondence
  • Review, correct and approve reports and correspondence
  • Assist with leave management processes
  • Maintain effective record keeping
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required
  • Develop media appeal material where applicable 

Specialist Client Services

  • Arrange and attend case conferences
  • Assist with ministerial and departmental enquiries
  • Approve case closures
  • Support staff with complex cases
  • Attend to or delegate duties in the absence of subordinates when required

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • 3 to 5 years appropriate social work experience
  • Supervisory experience advantageous
  • At least 6 months driving experience
