The Senior Reinsurance Claims Analyst is responsible for managing, analyzing, and resolving large-scale catastrophe reinsurance claims arising from events such as hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and other natural or man-made disasters. This role provides subject-matter expertise on reinsurance contract interpretation, catastrophe modeling impacts, and complex loss quantification. The analyst serves as a key liaison between internal stakeholders, brokers, and external experts to ensure timely, accurate claims settlement and strategic claims management.


Key Responsibilities

Claims Handling & Analysis

  • Manage end-to-end processing of complex catastrophe reinsurance claims, including preliminary validations, coverage analysis, and loss evaluation.
  • Conduct detailed review of cedant submissions, loss bordereaux, catastrophe reports and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure accuracy of recoverable calculations in accordance with treaty terms (excess of loss, catastrophe programs, aggregate structures, etc.).
  • Monitor claim development, identify trends, and provide insights on ultimate loss projections.

Reinsurance Contract Interpretation

  • Interpret treaty wordings, endorsements, loss occurrence definitions, hours clauses, reinstatement provisions, and aggregation language.
  • Advise internal teams on coverage applicability and potential dispute areas.

Data Reporting & Systems

  • Maintain accurate claim records in internal systems, ensuring alignment with finance and accounting processes.
  • Support quarterly and year-end financial close through claim reconciliations, IBNR analysis, and cash settlement tracking.
  • Contribute to data quality improvements and process automation initiatives.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure claims handling complies with regulatory requirements, reinsurance contracts, and internal governance standards.
  • Identify operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • 5–10+ years of experience in reinsurance or high-severity property claims, catastrophe claims preferred.
  • Strong understanding of reinsurance structures, catastrophe modeling, and industry reporting standards.

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced analytical and investigation skills.
  • Expertise in interpreting complex treaty wordings.
  • Strong communication and negotiation ability.
  • Proficiency in claims systems, Excel, Word
  • Ability to manage high volumes of complex data during catastrophic events.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
