Job Description:

The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Johannesburg, seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer qualified in Biomedical Technology/ Medical Laboratory Sciences who will actively contribute to teaching and learning, research, community outreach, and CPD development, in line with the University of Johannesburg's vision, mission, and goals.

The successful candidate is expected to undertake Undergraduate and research supervision, respectively, contribute to the development and review of Undergraduate teaching and curricula, and become involved in community outreach and CPD activities, in line with the discipline/departmental-specific objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching undergraduates using diverse methods in the Faculty of Health Sciences (Department of Biomedical Sciences).
  • Actively involved in core activities of the department such as academic administration, course development, consulting, and community-related projects.
  • Supervise BHS students' projects and actively participate in the research, producing outputs such as journal papers.
  • Facilitate teaching and learning within the domain of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Facilitate theory and practice integration.


Desired Experience & Qualification

  • A PhD qualification in Medical Health Sciences.
  • Must have a track record of recent publications.
  • Knowledge of applying for research funding.
  • Knowledge, skills, and competencies in Medical Health Sciences.
  • Experience in clinical supervision.
  • A track record of Postgraduate research supervision and publication.
  • Lecturing experience at university level and at least two (2) years’ experience in clinical practice.
 
Recommendations:
 
  • Innovative teaching techniques incorporating blended learning.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Technologist/ Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Experience in developing one's own research group.
  • Experience of community engagement.
