About the opportunity

We are seeking an inspiring academic medical practitioner with specialist qualifications in general practice to be a Senior Lecturer in General Practice in Sydney Medical School (SMS) and University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH). Reporting to the Academic Coordinator for Community, your role will encompass both support for teaching and liaison and support for the general practice supervisors. The incumbent will support the academic lead in general practice in the development and oversight of training placements, in addition to support the teaching program for students.   It is expected that all staff of the UCRH work towards gaining research skills in order to support students with research projects. Staff will be supported to identify areas of research relevant to their academic area of interest and initiate such research.

Please note the preferred day of work for this role is Friday.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide support to students undertaking placements in general practice clinical settings.

  • Contribute to and lead the development of the UCRH education program.

  • Engage effectively with students, supporting their learning experience and overall well-being.

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and contribute to research aligned with academic level and experience.

  • Develop innovative curricula, programs, and learning resources to enhance student engagement and outcomes.

  • Apply clinical expertise to curriculum development, evaluation of teaching practices, and fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture.

About you

  • experience or interest in research in community medicine or general practice

  • a medical qualification, recognised in Australia and General Practice Fellowship, as recognised by the medical board of Australia

  • demonstrates influence in their discipline, regionally and/or nationally and a commitment to pedagogical or curriculum innovation

  • a sustained record of interest and experience in teaching within a general practice, university or other tertiary setting practice

  • a network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, or willingness to build these relationships to enhance the standing of the Sydney Medical School

  • a current Australian driver’s license or ability to travel as part of the role requirements.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
