Overview

The RN Clinical Specialist is responsible for the initial wound assessment, treatment and management recommendations of acute and chronic wounds. This role will serve as a clinical expert and consultant to the healthcare team, ensuring evidence-based wound care practices to promote optimal healing outcomes. This role will also be responsible for monitoring quality improvement initiatives across clinical departments to enhance patient outcomes, regulatory compliance and operational performance. The nurse must demonstrate the ability to adjust to changing workflow assignments in a fast-paced environment and work as a team member, performing other duties as assigned.

 Responsibilities

  • Serve as a wound care consultant to nursing staff and providers
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning
  • Collaborate with physicians, dietitians, physical therapists, and case managers to optimize healing outcomes
  • Consistently demonstrate premier customer service and communication skills with all internal and external contacts to ensure the patient and their family members have the best encounter possible
  • Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team, prioritizing the needs of the patient and the department
  • Review cases with the Case Manager and Charge Nurse as needed
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Complete recertification requirements as needed
  • Direct patient care as needed
  • Complete open and closed chart audits
  • Other projects and responsibilities as assigned by CNO

Professional Requirements:

  • Complete annual educational requirements
  • Utilize the SQSS system
  • Wear identification while on duty
  • Ensure confidentially of patient’s records

 Education/Regulatory Requirements & Experience:

  • Registered Nurse in the state of Oklahoma
  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical wound care experience
  • Prior experience in quality improvement, performance improvement, risk management, or case management preferred
  • Experience with data analysis and regulatory compliance strongly preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit
  • High risk environment for exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds from the floor to waist and may occasionally be required to lift 50 pounds from the floor to waist level
  • Assist in transfer of patients to and from wheelchair, bed, and in and out of vehicle as needed
