Summary/Objective:
The Regional
Clinical Consultant - AL (RN) will be responsible for implementing and
overseeing processes for staff training on current assisted living policies and
procedures. The Regional Clinical Consultant – AL will also assist and instruct
the assigned assisted living communities regarding compliance with applicable Wisconsin
assisted living regulations and work cooperatively with the community’s Executive
Director and LPN (where applicable) to supervise the delivery of services
provided to residents.
Key
Responsibilities:
Resident Care and Satisfaction:
- Promotes quality of care and services for residents
in assigned communities, including their physical, emotional, and social
well-being.
- Monitors resident and family concerns to validate prompt and effective resolution.
Staff Development, Training, and Delegation:
- Collaborates with senior leadership and
community Executive Directors to promote the alignment of nursing practices
with organizational goals and standards.
- Identifies training needs and coordinates
ongoing education and professional development programs for assisted living
staff.
- Mentors and develops a team of clinical staff,
fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Supervises, orients and competency tests
direct care staff to assisted living and to each resident’s individual needs.
- Supervises medication practices and medical
equipment being used by assisted living tenants/residents.
- Follows Wisconsin Administrative Code N6 Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses when delegating medication administration and other delegated tasks.
- Completes training and assesses competency
prior to delegating medication administration and other delegated tasks.
- Assures that medication administration
procedures are followed properly and discusses any needed corrections, errors, and
other follow-up with staff.
- Reviews medication administration system and
medication documentation at least monthly in each assigned community
- Assures physician orders are signed and
implemented in each assigned community. Validates the disposal of medications policy
is followed at each assigned community.
Clinical Excellence:
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of current assisted
living facilities standards.
- Works with the clinical leadership team, develops
and implements clinical protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain
compliance with applicable laws and state guidelines.
- Develops and implements an audit process to review
assessments and development of individualized service plans for residents
across assigned assisted living communities.
- Maintains oversight of infection control program,
including employee health in assigned communities.
- Carries a cell phone and is ‘on call’ for
emergencies, resident changes of condition, and when staff perform delegated
nursing tasks.
- Follows applicable assisted living license
regulations.
- Monitors and participates, as needed, to ensure
timely and thorough nursing assessments for residents.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Maintains current knowledge of assisted living
rules, regulations, and standards, and guides all assigned communities with compliance
with applicable rules, regulations and standards.
- Conducts regular audits and inspections to
identify areas for improvement and compliance.
- Prepares for and manages regulatory survey
process.
Association Involvement & Management:
- Works with community leadership and senior
leadership to manage participation in WiCAL’s PEAL program (Performance
Excellence in Assisted Living) and Wisconsin Coalition for Collaborative
Excellence in Assisted Living (WCCEAL) involvement.
- Monitors and encourages the participation of
assigned communities in the Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long-Term Care (WI
BAL) forum meetings.
- Shares relevant information and insights from
WI BAL forums with other team members as appropriate.
Collaboration:
- Collaborates with senior leadership and members
of the Support Center on policy and procedure development.
- Identifies and implements training
opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Provides general feedback and insights to
improve the operations and care provided in assisted living facilities.
- Provides input and/or helps perform annual
evaluations for nursing and direct care staff
Quality Improvement:
- Leads quality improvement initiatives to
enhance resident clinical outcomes, quality of life, and operational
efficiency.
- Analyzes clinical data and metrics to identify
trends and areas for improvement.
- Develops and implements action plans to
address identified clinical issues and continuous improvement.
Safety:
- Knows and follows North Shore Health Code of
Conduct
- Follows North Shore Health dress and hygiene
policies
- Demonstrates proper use of equipment
- Reports equipment needs or repairs
- Follows North Shore Health smoking policies
- Reports and documents any incidents or
accidents of residents, staff or visitors to the appropriate North Shore Health
personnel
- Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment
- Uses required protective equipment (as needed
during facility visits)
- Follows infection control standards, policies
and procedures
Resident Rights
- Knows and respects resident rights
- Helps the residents exercise and/or protect
their rights
- Maintains confidentiality of resident and
employee information
HIPAA
- Follows and adheres to North Shore Health’s
policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and
security of protected health information
- Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of
Protected Health Information necessary to complete assigned tasks
- Reports all suspected violations of company’s
HIPAA policies or procedures to North Shore Health Chief Compliance Officer
Work Environment/Physical
Requirements
The
responsibilities of this position may involve significant travel and physical
activities including standing, occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds unassisted),
bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting. May be required to provide lifting and
transfer assistance to residents.
Lifting and/or transferring some residents will require use of a lifting
device and /or assistance from other staff.
Required Education
and Experience:
- Previous experience
in an assisted living setting
- Demonstrated
success leading a fun and productive work environment
Skills and
Qualifications:
- Current Registered
Nurse (RN) License in good standing
- Demonstrated
nursing management experience in a resident/patient care setting
- 3+ years management
experience preferred
- Experience working
with older adults in senior living, long-term care, home health or other health
care setting preferred or has demonstrated ability or strong desire to engage
with residents with dementia.
- Must be able to
adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.
- Ability to work in
a team environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy for the
challenges experienced by residents, families, and team members and
problem-solving skill set to support them.
- Strong computer
skills and ability to interact with a variety of electronic devices.
- Must have and
maintain current CPR certification
Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Adaptive Devices):
- Walking, reaching, bending, fine hand
coordination, ability to read and write, ability to communicate with personnel;
ability to remain calm under stress.
