Position Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Performance Management, the Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist will lead the development and execution of a strategic quality improvement plan for CHA programs. This includes designing and implementing initiatives, providing education and training, and overseeing data collection and analysis to enhance overall program quality.
The QI Specialist ensures accuracy and quality of Covenant House Alaska data through methods of internal audits, quality reviews and by working directly with program staff through follow-ups and training to ensure correct application of data methods.
Essential Functions
- Develop and maintain Quality Improvement work plans and process flow charts and measurement strategies.
- Conduct internal quality reviews of the assigned programs.
- Prepare comprehensive reports detailing internal audit findings, including analysis of agency implementation and process trends, along with actionable recommendations for corrective and preventive measures. Assist program’s performance by creating tools, such as new forms, checklists, and reports.
- Collaborate with program staff and leadership to implement corrective actions and monitor follow-up.
- Assist with preparation for external audits by regulatory agencies.
- Attend internal and external meetings and trainings related to the department’s focus.
- Ensure that reports generated to analyze agency data in ETO are effectively shared with program staff and leadership and provide training and support to enhance their understanding and use of the reports. Maintain positive working relationships with all CHA program staff
- Conduct special projects and tasks assigned by the Senior Director of Performance Management.

Minimum Education
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent degree required
Minimum Experience
Combination of experience with reporting databases and electronic system administration. Experience with regulatory and funding-initiated audits in the non-profit sector.
Lived Experience, experience working with adolescent or disadvantaged populations, preferably in a residential setting; life, volunteer, and internship experience are all considered assets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Basic understanding of adolescent development and behaviors. Demonstrate the ability to connect with and relate to at-risk youth.
- Strong ability to relate effectively with a diverse group of staff, youth, and community agencies.
- Excellent computer skills including experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with non-technical staff.
- Broad experience with reporting databases.
- Approachable, builds rapport well and practices attentive and active listening.
- Understand and comply with all Agency policies and procedures, including Child Protection Policies.
- Understand and comply with all principles of Trauma Informed Services.
- Ability to work with people of varied cultural backgrounds and embrace differences in behavior.

Working Conditions
- Position works in an office setting within the Covey Academy, but at times will be working within other administrative and program-based environments.
- Noise level is mild to moderate, consistent with office and residential environments.
- Must have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- Must have the ability to observe details within close range.
- Must be able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to move within the office to access files and office equipment.
- Consistently operates a computer and related office machinery.
- Occasionally moves items up to 40 pounds while ascending/descending stairways.
