JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for developing, conducting and evaluating in-service programs, orientation and continuing education for nurses, students and other staff in a specified clinical area. Develops educational policies and procedures. Serves as a resource person to staff and management. Participates in quality performance improvement activities; chair of the Quality Improvement Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Develops objectives for each in service and evaluates presentation and teaching material through staff input and suggestions.
- Interacts professionally with vendor/manufacturer sales representatives; coordinates equipment demonstrations.
- Assists with the coordination of performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Assists nurse managers with the planning and implementation of staff development programs.
- Ability to serve as a resource person, consultant to nursing and medical staff, students and ancillary staff members.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Tracks, researches, and completes Safety Zone (QMM) reported events.
- Lead as the District Quality Improvement Nurse, providing expertise in clinical quality improvement, data analysis, risk reduction, and process improvements.
- Serve as Chair of the Quality Improvement Committee.
- Develop Quality Improvement annual plans.
- Ensure documentation of Quality Improvement Committee monthly agenda and minutes.
- Serve as the lead for A3 problem solving.
- Report to the CNO on a monthly basis on District Quality Measures.
- Evaluate and recommend ways to improve quality metrics, develop benchmarks, and achieve clinical and service outcomes.
- Establish and maintain systems for quality assessment and improvement in medical and nursing, adhering to total quality management principles.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, audit tools, and reporting mechanisms to support quality initiatives.
- Oversee tracking of performance improvement plans and corrective actions from both external and internal audits, ensuring alignment with regulatory and regional guidelines.
- Collaborate with data analyst to establish metrics and prioritize improvement efforts based on performance outcomes.
- Manage patient safety projects and provide input on the effectiveness of performance improvement programs.
- Perform related duties as assigned by management.

- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.

- Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.
- Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and the employee handbook.
- Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization as well as the focus of the department.
- Meets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- Active RN License
- Previous RN Education Experience Preferred
- Previous Quality Improvement Experience Preferred
- Ability to lead and manage quality improvement projects.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.
