POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW – EPIDEMIOLOGY



Position Summary

 

This position offers an opportunity for a scientifically driven and analytically minded researcher with a PhD in Epidemiology to advance population-based and clinical research at Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI).

 

The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the design, execution, and dissemination of high-impact research addressing health outcomes, healthcare delivery, and system performance. This work will integrate epidemiologic methods, biostatistical analyses, and clinical collaboration to generate evidence that informs practice and policy.

 

The incumbent will play a leading role in study design, protocol development, data management and analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant development—working under the mentorship of senior investigators and in collaboration with clinicians, statisticians, and trainees.

 

Responsibilities



Research Design & Implementation

  • Lead the design, coordination, and execution of epidemiologic and clinical research studies across various health disciplines.
  • Apply advanced epidemiologic methods to analyze data derived from administrative health databases, clinical registries, and/or patient cohorts.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of study protocols, ethics submissions, and data-sharing agreements.



Data Analysis & Interpretation

  • Conduct statistical analyses using software such as R, SAS, or STATA.
  • Interpret findings, prepare reports, and develop visualizations for knowledge translation.
  • Ensure data quality, reproducibility, and compliance with research ethics and privacy regulations.



Knowledge Dissemination & Publication

  • Draft and co-author peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference abstracts, and presentations.
  • Support the preparation of research summaries, policy briefs, and lay summaries for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the writing of grant proposals, funding applications, and research progress reports.



Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration with clinicians, research staff, statisticians, and external partners.
  • Provide mentorship and training to research assistants, students, and residents on epidemiologic and statistical methods.
  • Participate in research team meetings, seminars, and conferences to present work and foster collaboration.



Program Development & Leadership

  • Support strategic growth of research programs through innovative study proposals and collaborative initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable data infrastructure and analytic frameworks for population health research.

Qualifications

 

Education

  • PhD in Epidemiology.



Experience

  • Proven experience designing and conducting epidemiologic or clinical research.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with statistical analysis and interpretation of health data.
  • Experience working with large administrative or clinical datasets is highly desirable.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in health services research, public health, or population health is an asset.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced understanding of epidemiologic and biostatistical principles.
  • Proficiency with one or more statistical software packages (R, SAS, STATA).
  • Familiarity with data management systems such as REDCap or similar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborative spirit, with the ability to work both independently and within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of research ethics, TCPS 2 guidelines, and data governance frameworks.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.

Hours

  • Typical work hours are 37.5 per week, with flexibility to accommodate research demands, conferences, and publication deadlines.

 

Term and Supervision

  • Term: 1-year appointment with possibility for renewal.
  • Supervision: Under the mentorship of senior investigators and research leaders at HSNRI.

 

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience and institutional postdoctoral scales, plus benefits.
