Purpose of Job:
Promotes health and wellness within our communities by providing health insurance education and enrollment assistance, and by connecting patients to appropriate resources to improve access to care and health equity, as follows:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Enrolls individuals in Washington Apple Health, Qualified Health and Dental Plans through the state health insurance marketplace, and assists with Medicare enrollment, including Medicare Advantage Plans.
Acquires a thorough working knowledge of managed care programs, including benefits for specific patient populations.
Acquires a thorough working knowledge of all NEW Health sites, services, and patient resources.
Assists patients with switching managed care plans to meet the individual needs of each patient and helps patients change their provider assignment based on patient preference.
Educates patients on insurance plan rules, benefits, appropriate utilization, and patient responsibility.
Works with the Patient Services Director to provide timely internal communications regarding relevant managed care and Marketplace updates, including open enrollment information.
Attends and completes relevant health insurance outreach and enrollment training.
Participates in community-based outreach activities, such as health fairs.
Assists patients with the sliding fee discount program application and educates patients on patient responsibility.
Reviews patient demographics to determine eligibility for various assistance programs.
Maintains a resource list of social services, agencies, and relevant assistance programs and helps patients navigate appropriate resources, such as food and transportation assistance.
Demonstrates superior customer service skills to improve the patient experience.
Treats patients with the highest respect and maintains patient confidentiality.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Travel required
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: HS diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with health insurance preferred. Face-to-face customer or patient service experience required. Washington Healthplanfinder navigator certification required within 90 days of hire.
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication. Computer skills required. Able to work independently with clients and function as part of a team. Job duties may be performed at multiple site locations. The position may require flexibility in work scheduling, including some evenings and weekends. Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License and required auto insurance.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and sit. The employee must use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Position requires driving.
