Part-time position for the 2025-2026 school year 

Reports to: High School Principal (or designee)


Niles Community Schools is looking for a dynamic CTE Health Science Teacher. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community. 


Job Summary:

The Health Science Teacher will teach and manage the Professional Health Career Academy. They will work cooperatively with Lake Michigan College, Corewell Health and Niles Community Schools staff.


Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and Occupational Certificate (IOC or OEC) in Health Science (CIP Code 51.0000) with appropriate industry licensure.

  • Eligible for Annual Occupational Authorization (AOA): Associate’s degree and a minimum of 4,000 hours of paid recent (within the past ten years) and relevant work experience in Health Care and current appropriate industry licensure.


Preferred:

  • Phlebotomy experience


Essential Duties (non-prioritized):

  • Collaborate with Lake Michigan College to deliver the content related to articulated credit for two courses, HEAL 101- Introduction to Health Careers and HEAL 103- Medical Terminology for the students enrolled in PHCA
  • Ensure that all PHCA students meet the requirements for student observers at Corewell Health in Niles.
  • Secure clinical rotations at the Niles hospital and/or other health care facilities in the area to provide work based learning opportunities for students.
  • Work with the Niles Career and Technical Education Director to make sure the program is following the requirements of a state-approved CTE program.
  • Encourage student participation in Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA).
  • Performs other duties consistent with the purpose of the job as directed.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with students, parents, school staff, and NCS staff is required.
  • Other duties as assigned


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to maintain composure and function effectively in a noisy, fast-moving environment and assumeresponsibility for the safety and well-being of students in that environment. The employee engages in physical management with students in order to maintain a safe environment for students and others.
