GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Mental Health Program Coordinator, in support of, the Shelby County Division of Corrections, will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing mental health services for inmates within the facility. This position requires a deep understanding of mental health issues, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervise mental health staff, including Mental Health Specialist, Peer Support Specialist, and Reentry Staff.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Must be licensed eligible. Licensed or certified in the appropriate discipline (e.g., Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist), preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years of experience in behavioral health services, working in mental health program development and management, preferably in a correctional or similar setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and mentor staff.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and implement mental health programs tailored to the unique needs of incarcerated individuals. Ensure programs align with evidence-based practices and regulatory requirements.
- Provide clinical oversight and consultation to ensure high-quality mental health care delivery.
- Conduct initial assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans for inmates. Monitor treatment progress and adjust plans, as necessary.
- Respond to mental health crises within the prison environment. Coordinate crisis intervention strategies and ensure timely responses to emergencies.
- Collaborate with correctional staff, healthcare providers, and community organizations to coordinate mental health services. Provide training and educational workshops on mental health topics for staff and inmates.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all mental health services provided. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
- Evaluate program outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives. Monitor and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of mental health interventions.
