Job Title:  Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant

Department/Program: Prevention & Foster Care Services, Early Childhood Program

Reports to: Infant & Early Childhood Program Director

Work location: Airport Business Center

FLSA status: Exempt/salaried

Salary:
  • Unlicensed 
    • $32.48/hr. - $34.46/hr. (Bilingual Spanish) $35.41/hr. - $37.56/hr. 
  • Licensed  
    • $33.60/hr. - $35.66/hr. (Bilingual Spanish) $36.62/hr. - $38.87/hr.

Job Summary:

The Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant is responsible for providing a broad range of mental health prevention services including infant/early childhood consultation, staff and parent training and support group, and other mental health prevention and referral services to identified children and their families to selected early childhood and education sites. The position involves implementation of evidenced based practice models, including The Georgetown Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation model, Early Childhood Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (EC-PBIS/Pyramid Model), and The Incredible Years.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide prevention services to children, their families, and early childhood education staff using infant/early childhood mental health consultation strategies, Early Childhood Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (EC-PBIS)/Pyramid Model practices, and Incredible Years or Circle of Security group curriculums.
  • Provide as necessary referral and consultation services to outside community based social services, healthcare providers, mental health treatment services, and early childhood special education providers.
  • Facilitate parent and child groups (Incredible Years, Circle of Security) with measurable fidelity, including video- taping, data collection and documentation and/or other fidelity related activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices.    
  • Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma-informed behavioral healthcare organization. 
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure successful operation of program/department.

Competencies: 

  • Knowledge of Infant & Early Childhood Development and ability to teach and train others in a reflective capacity to promote early childhood development.
  • Knowledge of effective training and group facilitation skills; able to implement parent education/training models to fidelity.
  • Establishes and maintains effective collaborative relationships with assigned consultation sites, relevant child and family serving agencies within the community, and children and families within those environments.
  • Uses a variety of observation strategies, tools and recording techniques to gain insight into a child’s behavior, and integrates information considering environmental contexts and available resources to assist and support staff and families to develop a plan that meets the child, family and center needs.
  • Able to provide responsive care and hold each other and yourself accountable to all individuals within Morrison, our clients and our community stakeholders.

Required Position Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling or related field.
  • Minimum of two years direct experience in a mental health setting providing prevention services and/or mental health therapy to children and their families.
  • Experience in infant/early childhood mental health.

Preferred Position Qualifications: 

  • Licensure preferred (LPC, LCSW, LMFT).
  • Familiarity with The Incredible Years and/or Early Childhood Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (EC-PBIS).
  • Experience in advertising/recruiting and facilitating training and group curriculums.
  • ​​Bilingual in Spanish and English, written, read and verbal strongly preferred. 

Other Requirements: 

  • Able to work shift hours and days, as assigned. Position may require work outside of usual work hours on occasion.
  • Able to pass a comprehensive criminal history background investigation.
  • Hold a valid drivers’ license. Must be licensed in Oregon or Washington within 30 days of hire
  • If driving personal vehicle, must maintain minimum auto insurance policy
  • If bilingual in Spanish, must pass language proficiency testing
Working Conditions  
EnvironmentWork is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.   
    
Mental demands: Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances. The work might be unpredictable and disrupts planned tasks, requiring flexible time management.   
    
Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
