ATA Services, Inc. is seeking to hire a Health Literacy Specialist with public health experience to work a temporary position. This position will be remote, however, the selected candidate must live in New Mexico.

The Health Literacy Specialist will lead the development, review, and redesign of public-facing health communication materials to ensure they are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with health literacy best practices. Working in collaboration with the Office of Community Engagement, the Language Access Program, and various public health program areas, the contractor will assess a broad range of documents for plain language, readability, cultural appropriateness, and visual clarity.
This role involves conducting health communication audits, conducting literature reviews, and creating tools such as readability checklists, style guides, and plain language templates. The contractor will engage internal teams and external partners to ensure community voices shape how health messages are designed and delivered. Community engagement activities may include facilitating listening sessions, usability testing, or feedback loops with trusted messengers from diverse populations across New Mexico.
Additionally, the contractor will develop and deliver internal capacity-building presentations or training sessions to equip staff with skills in health literacy, clear communication, and inclusive message development. Will work closely with instructional designer to create health literacy e-learnings. This work will serve as a foundation for long-term institutionalization of health literacy practices within the agency.
