Unifeye Vision Partners is currently hiring for a Health Information Technician, San Diego, CA
SUMMARY:
The Health Information Technician is responsible for maintaining and securing all written and electronic medical records within the facility's medical records department or its equivalent. This role ensures that information contained in the record is complete, accurate and only available to authorized personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects, assembles, checks and files patient charts as required.
- Ensure that records are in proper order, completed, signed, and indexed.
- Answers inquiries (requests, subpoenas, court orders) regarding information recorded in the medical record while ensuring that patient rights are always protected.
- Manages legal cases.
- Assists with insurance and HEDIS audits.
- Operative report correction and filing.
- Establishes and maintains a procedure to ensure medical records are safely maintained within the institution.
- Obtain records from storage as needed.
- Maintains accurate records for items sent to storage facility.
- Ensure that incomplete records are addressed with the appropriate department or service provider for correction or completion.
- Ensures documents are scanned into electronic record keeping system
- Removes and stores records at regular, scheduled intervals and properly stores the removed documents for retrieval, according to HIPAA regulations
- Assists and participates in departmental studies and quality projects as indicated.
- Follows work assignments and/or work schedules in completing and performing tasks; performs all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Administrative Operations Manager.
- This is an in-office position, remote work is not available
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Minimum of two years or more experience working in a healthcare related field.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Advanced understanding of medical terminology and administration processes.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations regarding requirements for maintaining medical records.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Adept at time management.
- The ability to work independently as well as in a group environment.
- Trustworthy, honest, respectful, discreet and flexible.
- Must be able to be entrusted with confidential information.
- Proficient computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
- EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
BA/BS degree preferred.
- Registered Health Information Technician preferred.

None required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
