DescriptionPosition Summary
The Health Information Technician provides administrative support to clinical and administrative staff by gathering, maintaining, and processing patient healthcare information. This role ensures that medical records are complete, accurate, and compliant with federal, state, and Park West Health System (PWHS) policies and procedures. Responsibilities include chart preparation, scanning, indexing, release of information, and responding to requests for patient records. The Health Information Technician plays a key role in maintaining confidentiality, adhering to regulatory requirements, and supporting efficient workflow in the Health Information Management Department.
Essential Functions
- Providing administrative support to the clinical staff (e.g., providers, nurses, medial secretaries, receptionists, etc.) by gathering and maintaining patient healthcare information, including but not limited to medical histories, diagnostic test results, and other patient documents.
- Maintains a comprehensive medical record consistent with federal, state, and PWHS policies and procedures.
- Analyzing the information collected to ensure correctness and accuracy.
- Knows the regulations regarding “Release of Confidential Information and is able to answer telephone or written requests.
- Maintains and processes correspondence, interpreting all types of request for copies of medical records, ensuring proper authorization and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relevant to PHI and EPHI.
- Ability to use correct policies and procedures and apply them in appropriate situations as a resource person.
- Perform special assignments and projects or unanticipated activities as assigned.
- Produce the volume of work required in expected timeframe.
- Use of sound judgment regarding safety standards and procedures.
- Communicate in a helpful and informative manner to maintain good customer relations.

QualificationsQualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in health information management or medical records preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and procedures for release of confidential information.
- Familiarity with electronic and paper medical record systems.
- Experience in chart preparation, scanning, and indexing functions
