Position Overview:

The Health and Wellness Resource Center (HaWRC) is hiring students to join our peer health educator team in Fall 2025. The Health Educators Reaching Out (HEROs) fill a vital leadership role as peer health educators for the UW Bothell campus.  The HEROs are trained Certified Peer Educators who conduct health promotion and prevention activities that address sexual health, interpersonal violence, emotional wellbeing, basic needs, and other priority health needs of the campus. 

 

Current posting open to UW Bothell students only (Cascadia positions will be filled Fall 2025). We will be hiring up to 6 students to serve as HEROs for the full academic year, September 2024 – June 2025. As a team, these students rotate through topics throughout the year, each getting the opportunity to specialize in mental health, sexual health/healthy relationships, and basic needs. They will plan events and tabling with their topic teammate, along with creating educational materials (flyers, handouts, Instagram posts, etc.). 

 

HEROs work will focus on contributing to social change in support of the HaWRC's vision to advance health equity for the campus community. They will strive to support all students through a holistic approach, encouraging the persistence through college. Through their work, HEROs will develop professional skills around leadership, facilitation, program planning, assessment, communication, and more.

Hours:                              12/hours per week during the academic year 

Compensation:               $20.76/hour 

Duration:                          September 2025 – June 2026 

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Become knowledgeable about campus departments to help students navigate resources
  • Act as a health influencer and advocate to spark student engagement in the campus community’s wellbeing
  • Consult and coordinate with HaWRC staff and other content experts to develop evidence-based wellness programming for diverse student audiences
  • Coordinate and conduct tabling, outreach, workshops, campaigns, and presentations about priority wellness topics
  • Assist with social media and other marketing and communication strategies
  • Coordinate and collaborate with campus and community partners
  • Research current trends and best practices in college wellness
  • Support needs assessment and evaluation efforts, including collecting and entering data, to identify priority wellness needs and determine success of programming
  • Provide general administrative support for the HERO program
  • Provide mentorship and support to other HEROs and volunteers
  • Assist in planning and attend weekly HERO team meetings
  • Attend group and one-on-one meetings with HaWRC staff 

Time Commitment & Availability: 

The HERO role is a full academic year time commitment, from Fall 2025 through Spring 2026. HEROs must be available to attend paid training prior to the start of Fall quarter. This training averages 30 hours per week, and will be September 2nd through the 23rd. 

HEROs must be available to attend paid training before classes start in the Fall for up to 30 hours per week, starting Sept 3 until the start of fall quarter classes. During the quarter, students will average 12 hours per week, with variation depending on events and schedules. During breaks, students will have remote required training, averaging 5 hours per week.



Requirements: 

  • Minimum Academic Success (must have a 2.5 Cumulative GPA during the time of application and while employed) 
  • Must be enrolled and maintain enrollment with a minimum of 6 credits (5 for graduate students) per quarter throughout the 2024-2026 academic year 
  • Be in good standing with your college and not violate any standards of student conduct code. 
  • Completion of required Title IX and other required training for student staff. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled UW Bothell student 
  • Expected graduation date no earlier than June 2026 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the bio-social-ecological factors that influence health, health equity, and social justice at the individual and population levels 
  • Demonstrated coursework, experience, and/or commitment to public health, health education, health promotion, health equity, and/or social justice 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to network and collaborate with others 
  • Ability to actively listen and empathize with others 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with a positive attitude 
  • Excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills used to inform and connect a variety of audiences 
  • Values a commitment to inclusiveness, demonstrates respect and commitment to diversity, and understands and supports the vision of the HaWRC.
