SUMMARY:

The Health Educator Program Coordinator I, under general supervision, coordinates and delivers mental health education programming, presentations, conferences and workshops.  The Health Educator works closely with peer mental health students and the Counseling Center Student Advisory Group to deliver suicide, alcohol and substance misuse, and peer mental health support.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and implements in conjunction with Outreach and Prevention coordinator, educational content regarding mental health and wellness topics.
  • Delivers prevention and wellness topical presentations to student groups and faculty and staff audiences.
  • Coordinates suicide prevention and alcohol and substance abuse prevention training for student groups, faculty and staff.
  • Works collaboratively with Student Health Services to coordinate and deliver health related programming.
  • Provides counseling, crisis assessment, and outreach services to fulfill internship requirements for master’s degree.
  • Ability to plan and implement programs and assists in their evaluation and assessment.
  • Experience in presenting to audiences on a variety of health related topics
  • Maintains records and assessment data of programs delivered

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in health related field.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: one year educational program delivery. Knowledge of mental health, crisis intervention, and prevention programing (suicide, alcohol and other drugs, and sexual assault and violence). Skilled in content delivery, presenting to students, faculty, and staff. Skilled in development of engaging presentation content and delivery to audiences.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of an interdisciplinary team. Work with deadlines and under pressure.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: None
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 30 pounds and to stand for two or more hours for tabling events.
  • Other Requirements: Work after normal business hours and weekends as needed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Bilingual- Spanish preferred
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work
  • Proven track record of delivery of health and mental health related content
  • Recent crisis response and trauma-informed training.
