Description

Position Summary:
The Director of Electronic Health Records (EHR) is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of the organization's electronic health record systems. This role leads a team of EHR trainers specializing in eClinicalWorks (ECW), Allscripts, and Athenahealth platforms, ensuring consistent and effective training, support, and system utilization across departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership & Oversight
    • Supervise and support EHR trainers (ECW, Allscripts, Athena) to ensure high-quality training and user support.
    • Foster a collaborative and performance-driven team culture.
    • Develop and manage departmental goals, KPIs, and performance evaluations.
  2. EHR System Management
    • Oversee the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of EMR/EHR systems.
    • Ensure system updates, patches, and upgrades are implemented smoothly and with minimal disruption.
    • Collaborate with IT and clinical teams to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
  3. Workflow Integration
    • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of clinical and operational workflows across departments.
    • Align EHR functionality with organizational needs to improve efficiency and patient care outcomes.
  4. Training & Education
    • Collaborate with training staff to establish EMR educational goals and individualized learning plans for staff with unique training needs.
    • Ensure ongoing education and competency development for all EHR users.
  5. Policy & Compliance
    • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state laws regarding data privacy (HIPAA), security, and electronic health record usage.
    • Provide feedback and make recommendations to the COO and IT Manager regarding updates to IT and EHR-related policies and procedures.
    • Develop and enforce internal policies for EHR usage, documentation standards, and data governance.
  6. Strategic Planning & Communication
    • Serve as a liaison between clinical, administrative, and IT departments to ensure alignment of EHR initiatives.
    • Lead strategic planning for future EHR enhancements and integrations.
    • Communicate effectively with executive leadership regarding EHR performance, risks, and opportunities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in EMR/EHR systems management, with leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ECW, Allscripts, Athenahealth, and other major EHR platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Deep understanding of HIPAA regulations and healthcare data security standards.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
