About the Role
As the Data Engineer / Scientist, you will play a key role in transforming how health data is collected, linked, and analysed to support strategic decision-making and improve health outcomes. Working within a centralised Azure-based data infrastructure, you will lead the development of data pipelines, implement privacy-preserving record linkage, and apply advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to generate actionable insights.
You will play a pivotal role in delivering secure, scalable data solutions that power innovation across the Gold Coast and influence statewide and national initiatives. Collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners, you will drive projects that not only transform integrated care locally but set the standard for health outcomes across Queensland. Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable data engineering solutions using Microsoft Azure tools (Synapse, Fabric, Data Factory)
- Lead the linkage of general practice and hospital data using Privacy Preserving Record Linkage (PPRL)
- Develop and optimise ETL pipelines and integrate APIs to support robust data workflows
- Apply machine learning and AI techniques to support predictive modelling and advanced analytics
- Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and productivity tools to support data-driven decision-making
- Ensure data governance, privacy, and security standards are upheld (e.g., ISO27001, FHIR)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders
- Support analytics maturity uplift across the organisation and contribute to strategic projects
Eligibility Criteria
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Statistics, or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years’ experience managing and optimising data repositories within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem
- Strong experience with ETL tools (Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric) and API integration
- Demonstrated expertise in privacy-preserving data linkage and healthcare data environments
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and database design
- Experience with Power BI and scripting (e.g., PowerShell)
- Familiarity with ISO27001, FHIR standards, and privacy legislation
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex data to diverse audiences
- Strong organisational and project management skills
Desirable:
- Azure certification (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate)
- Proficiency in Python, R, DAX, Java, or C#
Experience in primary health care or epidemiological data analysis
