Position Summary:

Hale Center ISD is seeking a dedicated and qualified Health Science CTE Teacher to deliver rigorous and relevant instruction in health science courses to students in grades 9–12. The ideal candidate will engage students in real-world learning experiences, promote career readiness, and manage industry-based certification opportunities aligned with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Health Science Programs of Study.

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or Associate's degree in related subject, or High School Diploma/GED and equivalent wage-earning experience as required by certification

 

Valid Texas career and technical education certificate with required license, endorsements, and training for subject and level assigned, or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI) Demonstrated competency in the career and technical education subject area assigned




LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Valid Appropriate CTE Teaching Certification, issued by Texas Education Agency+

Registered Nurse preferred;  Licensed vocational nurse will be considered 
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Current First Aid/CPR/AED - Instructor Certification Must be obtained within 90 days of hire date

Other Skills and Abilities Required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty
  • Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate technology equipment and software programs
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives including the needs and abilities of students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

 

Job Purpose Summary

 

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences which will prepare, train, and certify them to be leaders in Health Science Technology, with emphasis on Nursing/Patient Care Technicians, Medical Terminology, Health Science Theory, and Anatomy & Physiology. Implement a curriculum built on high expectations of demonstrable student success in applied skills and knowledge from the core academic subject areas of Mathematics, Science, English/Language Arts, and Communications, which will enable HCISD students to develop competencies and skills to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth to function successfully in society.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Duties

  • Plan, develop, and deliver engaging, TEKS-aligned instruction in Health Science courses, including but not limited to Principles of Health Science, Health Science Theory, Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Practicum in Health Science.
  • Integrate current industry trends and healthcare practices into lessons to promote relevance and student engagement.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs, including hands-on labs, simulations, and technology-based resources.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom/lab environment compliant with health and safety regulations.

Certification Oversight

  • Prepare students for and facilitate administration of approved TEA Industry-Based Certifications (e.g., Certified Nurse Aide, Patient Care Technician, EKG Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, etc.).
  • Coordinate with certification providers, testing agencies, and campus/district personnel to ensure proper scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, outcomes, and credential attainment.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with campus and district CTE staff to align curriculum and support program growth.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development in both education and the healthcare industry.
  • Support the development and implementation of work-based learning opportunities, including job shadowing, clinical experiences, and internships.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and stakeholders regarding student progress and program expectations.
  • Participate in CTE advisory committees, recruitment events, and other program-related initiatives.

 

Classroom Instruction and Student Management

  • Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes and provide instruction to grow student abilities
  • Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
  • Plan appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities including determination of appropriate level of materials
  • Implement an instructional program which provides appropriate learning experiences, considering different learning styles and a range of learning curves
  • Assist and participate in the management of student behavior in instructional settings, including school grounds, centers, and work sites, to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process; intervene to control and modify disruptive behavior, reporting to appropriate administrator
  • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  • Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, beneficial, safe and conducive to learning while ensuring materials are accessible to students and in good condition
  • CTE teachers will be responsible for maintaining safety in classrooms.
  • Provide students with opportunities to earn appropriate industry certifications
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. 

 

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate regularly with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress
  • Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress
  • Collaborate with other professionals, including counselors and librarians, to carry out school-wide instructional or related activities
  • Assign work and supervise instructional assistants, parent, and student volunteers, as needed

 

Professional Growth

  • Actively participate in professional learning, staff development, in-service activities and staff meetings
  • Ensure you are knowledgeable about and current in industry standards
  • Maintain current certifications and licenses
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
