Job Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for ensuring efficient operations,  high quality support and patient service in the primary care clinic & department.

Role & Responsibilities:

  1. Schedules all nursing staff in coordination with providers to ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of practitioner’s time.  
  2. Actively participates in quality assurance activities for the department.   Identifies opportunities and implements performance improvement and quality assurance solutions to meet SCH objectives.
  3. Reviews as needed and ensures the updating of the nursing protocol manual
  4. Responds to patient complaints when patient liaison is unable to address patient concerns, ensuring SCH procedures are followed and patient concerns are addressed.
  5. Support Clinical Nurse Manager in decisions relating to the discipline/termination of staff as appropriate.
  6. Participates in interviews applicants and assists with the onboarding process. 
  7. Continually monitors the behavior and performance of assigned staff on an ongoing basis; provides constructive feedback, training to assigned  staff as needed.
  8. Provides appropriate service education to staff in educating staff on procedures, EKGs, confidentiality, OSHA, patient rights, etc. to meet staff objectives.
  9. Ensures clinical staff are licensed and function within licensure guidelines.
  10. Schedules monthly on-call assignments for clinical support staff in a timely manner.
  11. Assists with telephone triage and advice to patients using approved protocols as needed. 
  12. Monitors patient scheduling to ensure adequate provider coverage and maximize patient flow.
  13. Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate patient education materials and tools for patients and their families as needed; distributes literature as appropriate to patients in a timely manner.
  14. Ensures accurate documentation is maintained. 
  15. Ensures exam rooms are adequately stocked and prepared prior to all patient visits as needed.
  16. Checks and stocks crash cart every daily, every month and after each use to ensure adequate emergency supplies are available as needed.
  17. Assists Clinical Nurse Manager with emergency preparedness process and protocols.
  18. Maintains a thorough knowledge of eligibility and guidelines of special programs available to patients.
  19. Participates in annual evaluations for employees by assisting the Clinical Nurse Manager with feedback and input on employee’s performance. 
  20. Completes monthly reports assigned, including quarterly safety report to ensure deadlines are met.
  21. Reviews practice clinical policies, procedures and performance improvement pro-gram to ensure compliance with regulation.
  22. Other duties as assigned within the scope of licensure and job responsibilities. 

Essential Skills:

  1. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  2. Must have a thorough knowledge of organizational or clinical policies and procedures
  3. Excellent computer skills are required, EMR experience preferred.  
  4. Maintains positive working relationships with SCH management and providers; willingly follows directions and requests as appropriate.
  5. Exhibits professional standards through appearance and demeanor consistent with SCH standards

Qualifications & Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing, licensed to practice in the State of West Virginia.  
  • Must possess excellent outpatient nursing knowledge and skills.  
  • Must have at least Two (2) years of prior experience in ambulatory care.  
  • Two (2) years of previous supervisory experience is preferred.
