Traveling Float Pool- Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist and Clerical

Galen Medical Group offers several medical specialties throughout the Chattanooga region. We provide quality care and patient-friendly services to adults and children of all ages. We are seeking qualified, like-minded Certified Medical Assistants to join our team!

 

This will be a Floating role between different Galen locations to cover temporary absences.  The Float Pool role will require a 12 month commitment before being eligible to apply for an office specific role.  Mileage allowance will be provided for travel between different locations daily, if needed.  Clinical Certification for both  CMA and Phlebotomy are required.

 

CMA Requirement

Summary/Objective:

 Collaborates with the provider to determine the needs of the patient and assists the provider with providing quality medical care to the patients.

  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
  • Collects data accurately and ensures that all information is entered into the patient’s medical record in EHR.
  • Prepares and stocks examination and treatment rooms.
  • Clean and sterilizes instruments.
  • Assists provider with minor office procedures.
  • Schedules Outpatient testing, Procedures or Surgeries.
  • Manages Referral process
    • Hospital Admissions
    • Testing and Procedures
    • Pre-certification
  • Triage patient phone calls per site’s protocol.
  • Process Prescription Refill requests per Physician’s protocol.
  • Performs Ancillary testing: EKG, Spirometry, Cryotherapy, etc.
  • Laboratory testing may include Rapid Tests, Urinalysis, Bilirubin, Auto CBC, and Phlebotomy.
  • Reviews lab and test results. Provide follow up to patient per provider’s instructions.

 Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide health education to the patient as needed.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with Galen’s clinical policies and OSHA standards.
  • Maintains clean and neat work area.
  • Active participation in process improvement efforts.
  • May be required to assist other team members based on office demands.
  • Recognize and demonstrate cost-effective measures in utilization of supplies and equipment.

Phlebotomy Requirements

Summary/Objective:

 Perform venipuncture, skin punctures & all other ancillary testing competently & expediently. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements & assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Perform blood draws competently & expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
  • Record phlebotomy requisitions.
  • Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient’s verbal information before venipuncture is performed.
  • Label & records all test tubes and complete log procedures as outlined in the lab procedure manual.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of color top tubes to use, as well as the proper volume of blood needed, and test requirements.
  • Follow universal precautions always.
  • Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule and recording results in the quality-control log.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique and following department procedures.
  • Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the ordering provider or nurse; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
  • Dispose of sharps & any containments properly using.
  • Prioritizes STAT, scheduled, and walk in appointments accordingly.
  • Enhances phlebotomy department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
  • Centrifuge blood samples as required by test(s).
  • Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients & equipment.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Complete assignments efficiently & in a timely manner.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Clean, stock, and/or order supplies for all areas in the laboratory, as requested by your supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by Regional Manager, Site Manager or Provider.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patients, medical, financial, and legal information.

 Clerical Requirements

Summary/Objective:

Welcome visitors by greeting them in person or over the telephone in a prompt, professional and courteous manner recognizing this position is the initial representation of all Galen Medical Group and the Site specifically.  This position provides support in the following areas: Check-In, Check-Out, Switchboard Operator, Appointment Scheduler, and/or Receptionist.

Essential Functions:  

  • Exhibits a high-level customer service approach by greeting all patients and visitors in a timely and helpful manner.
  • Obtain, update, and enter demographic and insurance information for the patient into the practice management system (PMS).
  • Scan patient’s insurance cards into the PMS and verify coverage and eligibility.
  • Point of Service collections – Collect Co-pays, Co-insurance, Past Due balances and Collection balances per site protocol.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of the patient’s presence for medical services.
  • Performs daily reconciliation of cash, checks, and credit card payments.
  • Responsible for credit card batch processing and daily deposit reconciliation.
  • Notifies the manager immediately of discrepancies in payments and collections, including discrepancies with out-of-balance batch reports.
  • Knowledgeable of participating insurance plans accepted by the office.
  • Provide the patient with updates regarding delays in the Provider’s schedule.
  • Assures the Waiting room is always clean and tidy.
  • If Check-Out duties are included in your job position, the following guidelines must be followed:
    • Schedule future appointments
    • Point of Service collections if done post visit
    • Return to Work and School notes
    • Schedule specialist appointments, and outside testing depending on site.
  • If Switchboard duties are included in your job position, the following guidelines must be followed:
    • Responsible for opening the Switchboard when the clinic opens.
    • Transfers and removes lines to and from the forwarding function to answering service when deemed appropriate by the manager.
    • Receives telephone messages via telephone and/or fax from the answering service and relays messages to the appropriate parties.
    • Answers all incoming telephone calls and alerts the appropriate staff of needs.
    • Courteously and efficiently assists patients with their needs when receiving calls.
    • Accurately records detailed messages and sends tasks to the appropriate person.
    • Notify personnel of incoming telephone calls according to the department guidelines.
    • Refer to On-Call schedule daily and relay to the answering service before closing the office.
    • Active participation in process improvement efforts.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant from a nationally accredited institution.
  • Must be a certified phlebotomist from a nationally accredited institution.
  • Individual must be BLS trained and certified at all times.

 

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of previous Clinical and Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

Skills/Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work as a team player.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to follow clinical pathways and protocols.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle higher-stress phone calls.
