Position Summary

Collects accurate data from optical imaging and the actual patient record, to provide valid and reliable patient information in accordance with the published standards.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, abstracts and analyzes clinical data for various information systems as assigned.
  • Maintains current edition of guidelines for relevant data collection systems.
  • Utilizes critical thinking, problem-solving and process improvement concepts to create an efficient work environment.
  • Analyzes clinical data for opportunity identification and communication of those concerns to the respective source for process improvement, to facilitate the decision making process, and for the reporting of outcomes.
  • Ability to use statistical techniques for data analysis.
  • Collection of concurrent and accurate data in accordance with the Clinical Practice Improvement department guidelines.
  • Analyzes complex reports for regulatory agencies and internal purposes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintains an intermediate level of knowledge regarding anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for effective time management in order to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrates ability to reprioritize in order to complete assignments as directed with ability to work independently under general supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
  • Cross trained to assist with various systems as necessary.
  • Trains new team members on a variety of systems to ensure compliance, data integrity, and prevent breaches of protected health information (PHI).
  • Functions as a resource to Orlando Health in the area of healthcare regulations, standards of care, and clinical performance improvement.
  • Works collaboratively with Clinical Practice Improvement personnel, HIM, various Clinical Nurse Specialists, Unit Based Educators, and Information Systems staff as appropriate.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of quality improvement philosophy, methodologies, and applications as appropriate.
  • Thorough understanding of The Joint Commission standards related to Quality Improvement.
  • Assist in documentation for The Joint Commission accreditation and other regulatory bodies as assigned.
  • Maintains clinical information accuracy rate in accordance with the published standards including quarterly testing for data integrity (must maintain accuracy of 95% or greater).
  • Informs direct report of quality issues/concerns.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with all team members.
  • Provides feedback to direct report regarding accuracy and usefulness of data collection systems as requested.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Assumes and maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops educational programs and professional
    affiliation.
  • Maintains all organizational and professional ethical standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical record policies, procedures and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Maintains and follows established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.

Qualifications

Education/Training


Associate’s degree in Nursing or other Health Care degree or 8 years of Healthcare experience in lieu of degree.

Licensure/Certification


Maintain current Registered Nurse license in the State of Alabama or maintain other Health Care license and/or certification and/or degree.

Experience

  • Two (2) years clinical experience.
  • Intermediate computer skills required with additional knowledge of MS Word and Exce
