POSITION SUMMARY

The CLINICAL INFORMATICS SPECIALIST provides education and training to facilities on the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with all laws, regulations and GHC standards. This position assists with the integration of nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works primarily in facility offices or at nurses’ stations but can work throughout facility as well.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Works beyond normal working hours as necessary.
  • Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses during facility visits.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Must have nursing degree (RN) from accredited college.
  • Must have an active nursing license.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a long term care setting; Multi-facility experience preferred.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Assists the Director with implementation of the Electronic Health Record.
  • Participates in post implementation evaluation to include: user accuracy, data integrity, and system reliability.
  • Facilitates the integration of data, information, and knowledge to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision-making in all roles and settings.
  • Serves as a liaison between the facility and the Clinical Information System IT team to communicate user needs and facilitate system modification to meet user needs.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel and email.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively.
  • Must have ability to provide education to professional and non-professional staff.
  • Must have excellent computer software skills.
  • Must be involved in community health matters/projects as appropriate.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines governing nursing functions in long-term care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Must practice regular and predictable attendance.
  • Must understand and follow company policies including harassment and complaint procedures.
