Position Summary

The Clinical Educator assists clinical staff in professional growth through just-in-time training, formal education, and self-study. This position provides the clinical staff with evidence-based knowledge and training. The Clinical Educator also provides support and participates in the preceptorship of newly-employed licensed nursing staff and clinical staff identified with a learning/training need.

 

General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Works with department staff and leadership across the organization to achieve exceptional clinical outcomes and promote exceptional care.
  • Creates a positive learning atmosphere for all students/employees.
  • Participates in the new employee orientation and onboarding process.
  • Collaborates with others to promote best care practices by providing needed or mandated education.
  • Supports organization-wide clinical training development and rollout. 
  • Educates and ensures understanding of the National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Coordinates student clinical rotations, schedules student orientations, and mentors students in the field of health careers as needed.
  • Collaborates with department managers to implement annual competency skills checks for all clinical departments as required to meet the need of the patient and regulatory bodies.
  • Directs, prepares, organizes and carries out education offerings which include orientation, skill and competency training and continuing education programs for clinical employees.
  • Oversees CPR program and maintains all required CPR certifications for clinical employees.
  • Trains, supports, and follows clinical employees to ensure positive and productive onboarding.
  • Researches, prepares, and conducts in-service opportunities for staff on a regular basis on identified educational and training needs.
  • Coordinates annual staff educational needs assessment in collaboration with department leaders and utilizes feedback to create and execute annual education plan in alignment with regulating body requirements.
  • Coordinates clinical affiliation agreements with appropriate institutions for clinical student rotations; orients clinical students as appropriate.  
  • Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education Requirements

  • Current RN Professional Licensure required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

 

Certification/Licensure Requirements

  • BLS required, BLS instructor within 2 years of hire
  • ACLS instructor within 2 years of hire preferred
  • PALS instructor within 3 years of hire preferred
  • CPI instructor within 2 years of hire preferred

 

Experience Requirements

  • Registered Nurse minimum 3 years preferred
  • Clinical training experience preferred

 

Computer Skills

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
