Position Summary:
 
This position functions as the theory-based nurse and clinical expert. Collaborates with staff on complex patients. Serves as educator, consultant, and researcher. 
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  1. Implements advanced practice through collaboration with the clinical and the leadership team
  2. Identifies changes that should be made in nursing practice using an evidence-based approach.  Continually investigates methods for improving patient care.
  3. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team as a consultant
    • Serves as a resource for other members of the interdisciplinary team related to provision of care
    • Works jointly to solve problems
    • Offers ongoing evaluation of nursing practice
    • Utilizes advanced knowledge and skills to support staff practice by role modeling and providing patient advocacy
  4. Provides educational offerings for staff development and continuous learning
  • Provides an appropriate climate for learning, and facilitate the adult learning process by developing, planning, and presenting educational activities and directly or indirectly fostering the development of competence in the staff
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities to ensure that they maintain and enhance professional development
  • Collaborates with leadership to assess the learning needs of the staff
  • Designs and implements comprehensive clinical orientation plan
  • Identifies, develops, and implements opportunities for continuous learning
  • Uses care situations to teach staff principles and interventions
  • Facilitates evidence based interdisciplinary care
    • Interprets and applies current research findings into practice
    • Initiates and/or assists in developing standards for patient care
    • Assists in the identification of indicators for study
    • Participates in the design and implementation of population appropriate clinical research topics
    • Reports findings from professional literature and conferences
    • Summarizes potential applicability for practice
  • Participates in the continuous improvement of the organization through the quality improvement process
    • Compiles reports for quality measurement
    • Conducts risk assessments
    • Completes monitors for assigned indicators
    • Implements actions that result in continuous improvement of quality and compliance
    • Participates in the organization wide quality measures
 
Clinical Educator Tasks:
 
  1. Coordinate, manage and develop bi-annual education in-services.
    • Develop and manage interactive learning environment 
    • Update learning materials based on evidence-based research and staff needs
    • Follow-up with staff for any remediation needs.
  2. Continuing Medical Education (CME) Coordinator
    • Complete or renew applications for each regularly scheduled program event
    • Manage all paperwork and applications for one-time events
    • Collect sign-in sheets and compile evaluation summaries for each event
  3. Grand Rounds Coordinator
  • Renew Application every 2 years through the UC CME office (RN/MDs)
  • Renew Application every 2 years through the Ohio Psychological Association (Ohio psychologists)
  • Coordinate monthly presentation including searching for speakers, collecting paperwork, communicating with speakers and the CME office, inviting internal and external attendees.
  1. Learning Management System (LMS) Manager
    • Create and manage courses within the LMS
    • Train new and current staff on the education modules.
    • Track course attendance (reach out to staff with reminders, update managers on staff status).
    • Attend monthly meetings with UC, West Chester LMS managers
  2. Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Administrator and Manager
    • Coordinate BLS/ACLS courses for all staff who require BLS using the learning management system
    • Track all staff for compliance (send reminders, follow-up with staff for any remediation needs)
    • Super-User (assist staff with learning content, use of the simulation manikin)
  3. New-Hire Orientation
    • Prepare paperwork/orientation booklets for clinical staff.
    •  Teach courses and competencies: milieu management, therapeutic interactions, CPI/Restraints, vitals, glucometer, pain management, med administration. 
    • Meet individually with each nurse for treatment plan training and nurse specific competencies
  4. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Instructor
    • Teach CPI classes to all new hires who require the training.  Offer addition trainings monthly for current staff who need annual recertification.
    • Track all staff for compliance (send reminders, follow-up with staff for any remediation needs)
    • Renew instructor certification every 2 years.
  5. Student Nurse Placement Coordinator
    • Schedule and coordinate registered nurse clinical placements.
    • Communicate directly with university clinical coordinators and instructors.
    • Collect student orientation packets/paperwork from each clinical instructor and student.
  6. Muse System Coordinator/Trainer
    • Manage the Muse EKG process for inpatient, residential and Hope Center North.
    • Continued maintenance and training for the system.  Coordinate training of additional staff members to assist with daily Muse tasks
    • Management of the Preliminary Result Holding Queue (EPIC)
  7. Participate in the organization wide quality measures
    • Hand-Wash Audits: collect audit information from managers, collect and compile monthly data. 
    • Nursing Treatment Plan Audits: collect and compile monthly data.  Contact nurses who need reminders or remediation
    • Provider Treatment Plan Audits: collect and compile monthly data.  Contact providers who need reminders or remediation
 
Position Qualifications:
 
  1. Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  2. 3-5 years of nursing experience required, including psychiatric nursing. 
  3. 1-2 years of education or training experience required.
  4. CPR Certification required within 30 days of hire.
  5. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate effectively using age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for the spectrum of populations admitted to LCOH.
  6. Ability to enthusiastically follow and model the Lindner Center of HOPE mission, vision and values
 
Physical Requirements:
 
Candidates must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, and be able to stand or walk about 90% of a work shift.  Must be able to see, talk and hear coworkers, patients and others.  Sufficient manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment and ability to use a computer.
