Clinical Documentation Specialist Job Summary

Here at Vista Specialty Hospitals, the Clinical Documentation Specialist is responsible for reviewing coded records at least twice during patient stays upon initial coding and after the record is final coded. The Clinical Documentation Specialist is responsible to communicate with the coder and work as a resource on site in communicating with physicians and leadership. The Clinical Documentation Specialist should attend CDI weekly call with leadership.

Education: Associate's or bachelor's degree in health information technology.

Licenses/Certification:                    

• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
• Registered Nurse (RN) will be advantageous.
• Current CCS or RHIT credentials required.

Experience:  

• Four years hospital coding experience preferred. 
• Thorough knowledge of current coding guidelines.
• A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role.
• Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software
• Advanced knowledge of best practices in medical record-keeping.
• In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and procedures.
• Extensive experience in collecting and interpreting medical information, as well as training staff.
• Ability to keep informed of advancements and regulations in clinical documentation.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
