ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

Associate Dean of Health Sciences and Accreditation is an academic administrator who oversees all health sciences academic programs, as well as activities related to programmatic accreditation and other specialized accreditation(s). Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, this position oversees academic initiatives related to the fields of health sciences and is responsible for encouraging the research, development, introduction of new curriculum and majors, as well as the student learning outcome assessment process. Assists the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs in monitoring and achieving academic goals and objectives and takes a leadership role in managing the accreditation of the health sciences programs. 

This position is primarily located in Scranton, PA, but the position requires the ability to occasionally travel to other locations. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategic Planning and Institutional Alignment

  • Leads departmental and divisional planning processes in alignment with the Institutional Strategic Plan, ensuring meaningful staff engagement, clear assignment of responsibility, and accountability for execution of all plan-related activities.
  • Participates in institutional strategic planning processes, as requested.
  • Assesses progress toward divisional and academic department goals on an annual basis; formally reports outcomes to supervisor and participates in institution‑wide reviews of departmental plans.

Academic Leadership and Curriculum Development

  • Directs curriculum research, program assessment, and new program development within the Division of Health Sciences.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Academic Quality to lead assessment activities for the Division of Health Sciences, including data collection, analysis, reporting, and use of results for continuous improvement.
  • Develops and leads division‑specific interprofessional education and curricular enrichment initiatives, including appropriate assessment of outcomes.
  • Supervises the Health Sciences Learning Liaison initiative and evaluates its effectiveness.
  • Assists in maintaining a current, forward‑looking plan to strengthen and sustain health sciences programs and advance excellence across the division.

Program Oversight and Accreditation

  • Provides comprehensive supervision of all Health Sciences programs, ensuring compliance with programmatic accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Plans for, monitors, and oversees program accreditation activities and related regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Recommends and implements best practices emerging from programmatic accreditation standards, as appropriate.

Staff Leadership

  • Determines staffing needs for instructional and program support personnel in alignment with divisional goals and program requirements.
  • Recommends professional development opportunities for program staff to enhance instructional quality and student learning.
  • Leads regular divisional meetings addressing matters of importance to individual programs and the Health Sciences Division as a whole.

Budgeting and Resource Management

  • Assists in the preparation of annual divisional budgets and in revising budgets following allocation decisions, supporting effective stewardship of fiscal and human resources to advance divisional priorities and institutional goals.

Policy Advisement and Institutional Service

  • Advises the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs on educational policy matters related to Health Sciences programs.
  • Participates in institutional ceremonies and academic events, including Commencement and Honors Convocation.
  • Serves on College committee(s) as appropriate.

Other Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the mission and strategic objectives of the institution.

  1. Significant experience in teaching as well as academic administration in college settings.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a participatory manner with all 
     segments of the college community, as well as the external community.
  3. Proven ability in addressing the needs of an increasingly diverse multi-cultural and multi-racial student body.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to provide leadership in instructional methodology.


EDUCATION:

  • Terminal degree required.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years as an administrator at the college or university level.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience acting in a supervisory capacity with responsibility for both full and part time staff. 
  • Experience overseeing accreditation activities. 
  • Experience with curriculum design and assessment. 
  • Experience developing and implementing academic policies.
