Job Summary
Assists the Associate Director of Clinical Education in clinical education duties within the Master of Science in Physician Assistant (MSPA) Program. This includes planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering, monitoring, and assessing clinical education. Serves as principal PA Program faculty and engages in teaching, scholarship, and service. This is a 12-month faculty position as an Assistant/Associate Clinical-Track Professor or as an Assistant/Associate Tenure-Track Professor.Β
Responsibilities and Duties
Assistant Director of Clinical Education:
Provide effective leadership of clinical education within the MSPA Program, which includes:
- Assists with the planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering, monitoring, and assessing clinical education activities
- Communicates clearly and promptly with the Associate Director of Clinical Education and the Program Director about matters pertaining to the clinical year
- Communicates clinical year matters to, and works collaboratively with, the Clinical Team, faculty, staff, students, and clinical preceptors
- Assists with clinical site sufficiency and effectiveness through development, maintenance, and assessment of clinical rotation sites
- Oversees clinical affiliation documentation and site requirements
- Supervises maintenance of student compliance and clinical preceptor licensing and certification information
- Supervises organization of, and participates in, EOR Callback days with clinical preceptors
- Conducts site visits on assigned students and performs periodic clinical site audit visits
- Supervises updating/maintaining clinical site database in program software with clinical coordinator support
- Finalizes clinical year student handbook and preceptor handbook with clinical faculty support
- Assists the Associate Director of Clinical Education to ensure clinical phase curriculum meets practice standards and scope, and complies with ARC-PA requirements
- Ensures that the SCPE site list is accurate and up-to-date
- Maps topics, clinical phase learning outcomes, assessments, and competencies and program goals to ARC-PA standards
- Creates clinical phase ARC-PA reports for maintenance of accreditationΒ
- Participates in the preparation of ARC-PA accreditation materials
- Participates in ARC-PA accreditation process and accreditation site visits
- Collaborates with Associate Director of Didactic Education to evaluate and fill gaps in program curriculum
- Completes other duteis as assigned by the PA Department Director and the Associate Director of Clinical Education
Clinical or Tenure-Track Faculty
Teaching
As a faculty leader, the Assistant Director of Clinical Education is also expected to demonstrate exemplary teaching throughout the MSPA curriculum.
Scholarship
Maintains personal scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences scholarship requirements for clinical-track aor tenure-track faculty. Clinical-track faculty are required to have an active research agenda, establish their abillity to conduct independent reserach and work collaboratively with other faculty in scholarly endeavors. In both clinical and tenure tracks, scholarly work is expected to make a contribution to, and an impact on, the profession/discipline, to interdisciplinary areas, and/or to pedagogical endeavors.Β
Service
All CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession, and the community. Required Qualifications
- Current CNNPA certification
- Current or eligible for PA licensure in the state of Michigan
- Prior experience in PA education
- Academic degree:
- For Clinical-Track Assistant/Associate Professor: a Master's degree in Physician Assistant or a relevant discipline
- For Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor: a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physician Assistant and a PhD or related academic doctoral degree in a relevant discipline
- Clinical professional PA experience for Clinical-Track positions:
- For Clinical-Track Assistant Professor: three years of professional PA experience
- For Clinical-Track Associate Professor: five years of professional PA experience
