Position Title: Personal Trainer (Activities & Recreation Center)
Status: Student, Part-time (not to exceed 19 hours a week)
Reports to: Program Manager of Fitness
Timeline: Fall 2024 – Spring 2026
Hourly Rate: $19.97-$20.22/hour
The ARC Personal Training program is grounded in client care. By providing quality, evidence-based education, clients can trust that they are receiving the most up-to-date information and best practices across the industry. As with all ARC programming, we deeply value the differences in each of us and remain committed to providing an inclusive and equitable exercise experience.
The purpose of our program is to increase client confidence, knowledge-base, and self-efficacy, allowing the client to be successful on their own. A unique aspect of our program is the element of mindfulness that we weave into all sessions. Each interaction will include a unique focus on self-reflection, breathing, and a mind-body connection, helping to provide more holistic care for our participants.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of human anatomy and the concepts of functional exercise, basic nutrition and basic exercise science
- An ability to design individual exercise programs tailored to the needs and attainable goals of specific clients
- Possess a current personal training certification from a nationally recognized certifying body (AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NASM, NETA or NSCA/CSCS preferred).
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled student at UW Bothell or Cascadia College and is graduating Spring 2026 or later
- In good academic and conduct/behavioral standing
- Possess a current personal training certification from a nationally recognized certifying body (AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NASM, or NSCA/CSCS preferred).
- If able to train for one year or longer with the ARC, certification cost will be covered
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid (American Red Cross –preferred). Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire (in-house trainings available).
- Excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to self-motivate with little supervision
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Capability to withstand possible continuous standing
- Trainers will be required to complete 28 hours of training and one hour of quarterly training to remain up to date with their skills
- This position's responsibilities & tasks require at least 10 hours of paid time a week
- At least 18 years of age

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Must contact clients within 24 hours to schedule initial consultation/ fitness assessment.
- Work with the client to establish realistic yet challenging goals.
- Determine format and content of exercise/activity program based on individual client needs.
- Plan and implement individualized exercise/activity programs for clients in general fitness, and/or specialized areas such as aerobics, stretching/flexibility training, circuit training, or sports performance.
- Independently demonstrate and instruct clients on proper technique in standard and specialized exercise areas.
- Perform follow-up assessments upon request to track client progress.
- Maintain complete and accurate client files.
- Ensure client adherence to safety and injury prevention techniques.
- Arrive on time for all sessions; at least 10 minutes prior to training sessions.
- Present a neat, well-groomed, professional appearance.
- Execute emergency procedures when necessary.
- Report any incident of injury, theft, or broken equipment to the Building Manager on duty.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
- Communicate effectively with the Program Manager of Fitness, Fitness Student Coordinator, and fellow peers
