Job Duties
The Adolescent Health Educator designs, develops, and delivers comprehensive education on sexual health, STIs, pregnancy prevention, healthy relationships, and mental health. This position provides reliable and trustworthy sexual & mental health information to adolescents/youth, in community settings and in traditional educational settings. The Sexual Health Educator adheres to the sexual education curriculum guidelines from different school districts. Provides support to the Adolescent Health Outreach in their different educational and outreach functions. Serves a fundamental role in supporting and operating the Omaha Teen Generation youth council.
- Promotes and serves as a support system to the program manager and educators to plan, coordinate, and implement trainings on comprehensive sexual health education for youth.
- In partnership with the manager and educator, recruits and trains interested youth to be part of the core group of peer educators and the youth council.
- Coordinates and establishes partnerships with schools, school clubs, or other community organizations where adolescents convene.
- Utilizes these partnerships to promote the program goals and identify youth leaders. Facilitates referrals of at-risk participants to appropriate medical services. Employs the program’s social media platforms to market our events and classes.
- Serves as a liaison and advocate between the clinic and the community by evaluating the clinic’s services and responsiveness to the changing needs of the community.
- Evaluates health promotion activities and seeks to improve program outcomes in compliance with organizational and grant funding agency criteria.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Science, or any related field preferred.
- Proficiency in English is required; proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
- Experience and/or training in community health, promotion, or outreach preferred.
- Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office products are required.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentational) are required.
- Knowledge of cultural and health issues affecting the program participants preferred.
- The ability to travel to remote worksites: a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) required.
