General Summary

The School of Health Sciences at Eastern Michigan University is seeking a Director. Health Sciences is one of five Schools within the College of Health and Human Services; all five Directors report to the Dean of the College.

Eastern Michigan University is located in historic Ypsilanti, about 10 miles east of Ann Arbor, 40 miles west of Detroit, and just 20 minutes from Detroit Metropolitan Airport. It is an area rich in academic, research, technological, and recreational resources. With over 13,000 students, EMU provides a rich learning environment for the campus community. Our students represent 47 states and 83 countries.

The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) is one of five colleges in the University. CHHS comprises five schools. The other Schools in the College include the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, the School of Health Promotion and Human Performance, and the Physician Assistant Studies program.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of the School of Health Sciences will provide leadership for six professional programs: Clinical Laboratory Sciences (undergraduate); Clinical Research Administration (graduate); Dietetics and Human Nutrition (undergraduate and graduate); Health Administration (undergraduate and graduate); Occupational Therapy (graduate); and Therapeutic Recreation (undergraduate).

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful applicant for the Director position will possess:
● Demonstrated leadership ability and innovative thinking to facilitate both growth and enhanced quality within and across all programs in the School of Health Sciences.
● Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with community agency partners, with faculty, staff, and students in the School, with administrators in the College and throughout the University, and with current and potential donors.
● A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, service, and practice within the profession.
● Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and management skills.
● An earned doctorate from an accredited university, preferably in one of the seven professional programs in the School.
● The ability to be appointed to a tenure-track position in one of the seven professional programs in the School.
● Demonstrated support for interprofessional education (IPE).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with professional accreditation practices.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining grant funding.
