The Wellness Coach’s primary responsibilities are to instruct, supervise, and reinforce proper strength training procedures in the Strength Training areas.  The incumbent is a team player who demonstrates strong interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, customer service and verbal communication skills.  The incumbent accepts, demonstrates and teaches the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
 
Shifts Available:   Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 1-5  p.m. (could split days)
 
Salary:  $14/hr
 
The candidate must accept and demonstrate the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The candidate must be able to perform physical tasks commensurate with the position requirements.

All positions require the ability to obtain PA State Police, PA Child Abuse History, FBI Fingerprint and National Sex Offenders Registry Clearances.  If you do not have current clearances the Y will help you obtain them.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • Setup and train participants on the proper use of the Mobile Fit system, Nautilus, Free Weight, Universal and Cardiovascular equipment
  • Provide supervision, instruction, demonstration, organization and leadership of participants’ strength training program based upon their individual needs and levels, and as required individual training.
  • Monitor Nautilus, Free Weight, Universal, Cardiovascular, gym and track areas to ensure members safety, use of proper technique on equipment and adherence of the YMCA’s policies.
  • Monitor and update participant’s progress on the Mobile Fit system or workout chart system management.
  • Assist participants, as required, with their strength training needs.
  • Provide quality member service by knowing members by name, displaying a pleasant and professional  attitude at all times, assisting members, and referring questions or concerns outside of your area of expertise to a supervisor.
  • Instruct participants in strength training principles, training procedures, and exercise techniques consistent with the YMCA’s training philosophies.
  • Understand, follow, teach and enforce program appropriate safety rules and YMCA procedures and policies.
  • Provide positive feedback and encouragement to all participants.
  • Provide guidance in helping participants set realistic goals.
  • Provide encouragement to participants to work at their own pace and level.
  • Maintain availability and approachability to all members who require assistance.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor in writing on proper forms.
  • Help maintain a positive, neat, safe, clean and pleasant environment in the strength training areas.
  • Perform administration functions such as attendance records, workout chart system management, member calls and Mobile Fit follow-ups etc.
  • Communicate any schedule changes and/or substitutions.
  • To attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply
  • Possessing working knowledge of strength training and fitness.
  • Possess and maintain a current CPR and AED certification or successfully complete no later than six weeks after employment begins.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, organizational, customer service, problem solving and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess and demonstrate an ability to:  read, interpret and effectively communicate documents, information and instructions such as safety rules, strength training and Mobile Fit instructions, and YMCA policies and procedures.
