Fort Sill is a United States post north of Lawton, Oklahoma, about 85 miles (136.8 km) southwest of Oklahoma City and 50 miles north of Wichita Falls, Texas on Interstate 44.  It covers almost 94,000 acres.

The fort was first built during the Indian Wars.  It is designated as a National Historical landmark and serves as home of the United States Army Field Artillery School as well as the Marine Corps' site for Field Artillery MOS school, United States Army Air Defense Artillery School, the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade, and the 75th Field Artillery Brigade.  Fort Sill is also one of the four locations for Army Basic Combat Training. It has played a significant role in every major American conflict since 1869.

Lawton is a city in southwest Oklahoma. Interactive exhibits at the Museum of the Great Plains include a trading post and a schoolhouse. Tribal, religious and military objects at the Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center explore Native American history. The adjacent Elmer Thomas Park includes Lake Helen, a playground and paths. Northwest, the Lake Lawtonka area is popular for water sports, hiking and camping

Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Apply biopsychosocial evaluations to propose behavioral health interventions.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment, including behavioral, cognitive, and motivational approaches.
  • Provide primary care providers and staff regular and concise feedback on the status of referred patients, to include recommendations for team-based care.
  • Implement psychoeducational classes to target high frequency diagnoses found in the primary care clinic.
  • Document information in the electronic health record during patient encounters.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties may require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees may be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position may be a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees may be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
  • Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 10 pounds may be required.
  • This position may require the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Mental Health Consultant):

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

License: This position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: 
One year of specialized experience which includes conducting mental health assessments; providing individual and group treatment; and working as part of a multidisciplinary team. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
