SPECIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
Knowledge of methods and principles of social work supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social worker principles, techniques, and practices and their application to specific casework and community problem. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Ability to discern crises and direct appropriate actions. Ability to make independent decisions and yet keep superiors informed of activities and/or problems. Ability to give direction and follow direction. Ability to share in the responsibility of supervising after hours on-call when required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise a team of Child Protective Service Social Workers. Duties include coordinating, implementing, managing, and supporting all activities that are performed by the social workers assigned to the Child Protective Services unit. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the social workers carry out their functions of protecting children, complying with court orders, North Carolina Child Welfare Statues and laws, Federal Child Welfare Statues and Laws as well as meet the expectations of the county and agency. Due to the nature of child protective services, the employee is required to be knowledgeable about all tasks and expectations within child welfare services and may be expected to perform tasks/responsibilities in other areas of child welfare.
MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
