Department of Social Services – Child Protective Services Unit

Make a lasting impact in the lives of children and families in your community. Person County Government is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Work Supervisor III to lead a team of professionals in our Child Protective Services (CPS) Unit within the Department of Social Services.

About the Position:

The Social Work Supervisor III is a key leadership role responsible for supervising social work services for children who are abused, neglected, or dependent, as well as their families and caregivers. This position ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality services, while fostering professional growth, accountability, and collaboration within the CPS Unit.

You will work closely with the Program Manager, Deputy Director, and Director to support front-line social workers, coordinate training, manage complex cases, and represent the unit in both internal operations and community partnerships.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.


Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.


This is an exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly/1950 hours annually.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience;  
  • or bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; 
  • or master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; 
  • or bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; 
  • or bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience;  
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates.  Job offers are conditional pending the following:

  • A pre-employment drug screen for all candidates. Positions designated by Person County as Safety Sensitive are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • A background check for all candidates.  Some positions also require a credit check.
  • Additional screening and testing required for some positions.
  • Within 3 days of the start of your employment with the County, you must be able to provide proof of your eligibility to work in the US.
