Overview
The Senior Public Health Educator provides professional lactation services and breastfeeding support. Prepares, creates, and delivers presentations and educates the public to make informed decisions regarding health practices.
Essential Functions
1 Provides one on one lactation consults for new mothers and current mothers; performs infant assessments, feeding help, breast pump issuance, and various follow up assistance and support.
2 Researches, compiles, and develops training programs to improve the health and breastfeeding practices of the general population.
3 Networks, develops, and maintains a relationship with churches, schools, media, social agencies, and other health providers to plan, organize, and coordinate health education services.
4 Implements teaching strategies and creates visual aids to effectively reach special populations.
5 Interacts, engages, and works closely with health associations to obtain information and training and to coordinate joint projects; works closely with other peer counselors and staff to facilitate health support programs.
6 Designs, composes, and prepares newsletters, pamphlets, flyers, and other literature on health topics for distribution to the general public in order to inform them of available health services and promote safe health practices.
7 Researches relevant health issues to stay abreast of current information, techniques, and developments in health education; conducts staff meetings and continually works to improve services and offerings.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Education, or a Health-related field is required.
Experience
Four (4) years of experience as a Dietitian or in a nutritional setting.
Licenses and Certifications
International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is required.

1 Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and major health concerns of the community.
2 Knowledge of public health and education.
3 Knowledge of the use of survey's to determine community health.
4 Ability to educate and make verbal presentations.
5 Ability to research health topics and health education programs.
6 Ability to identify public health issues and make recommendations.
7 Ability to assist and direct various community members and patrons.
8 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
9 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Salary Range
