Senior Medical Writer

Role Overview

The Senior Medical Writer is responsible for overseeing the scientific and editorial execution of assigned projects and client accounts, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, strategically aligned medical communications solutions. By leveraging extensive knowledge of therapeutic areas, market trends, and client objectives, this role contributes to business development and strengthens client partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of clients’ products, therapeutic areas, and competitive landscapes to deliver strategic and value-added medical communications consultancy.
• Create scientifically accurate and engaging content across a wide range of medical communications materials, including publication manuscripts, meeting summaries, slide presentations, newsletters, promotional materials, email campaigns, and digital assets.
• Lead scientific and editorial teams to ensure content quality, medical accuracy, and alignment with client communication strategies and brand objectives.
• Build and sustain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) within relevant therapeutic areas to support strategic recommendations and client initiatives.
• Chair and facilitate interactions with KOLs during advisory boards, speaker briefings, manuscript reviews, and other scientific engagements to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Manage the scientific and editorial aspects of live and virtual events, ensuring seamless delivery and high standards of content.
• Establish trusted partnerships with clients’ medical and commercial stakeholders through strong scientific expertise, communication skills, and consultative support.
• Identify and pursue opportunities for account expansion and new business development.
• Lead client discussions, project launch meetings, strategic planning sessions, and regular progress updates.
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Business Development teams to drive account growth, prepare compelling proposals, and support successful pitch presentations.
• Provide people leadership and performance management for Medical Writers, including goal setting, career development, coaching, and performance reviews.
• Mentor and train team members on scientific content development, therapeutic area expertise, compliance requirements, and editorial best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a life science discipline (PhD or MSc preferred). Additional healthcare qualifications such as MD, PharmD, Nursing, or other allied health degrees are advantageous.
• Minimum of five years of experience within a medical communications agency and/or the pharmaceutical industry.
• Outstanding written and spoken English communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly and effectively.
• Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an advantage.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific concepts into concise, audience-appropriate messages.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
