Key performance areas
Deliver effective, high‑quality teaching, learning experiences and assessments across relevant modules; supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects; and provide academic mentorship, guidance, and professional development support to junior staff. The role requires active leadership in curriculum development, review, and programme innovation, ensuring alignment with disciplinary standards and emerging developments in Environmental Health Sciences. Conduct, leadand publish high‑quality research; attract external funding and research grants; develop a sustained and credible portfolio of peer‑reviewed publications; and contribute to the strengthening of research capacity within the department. Contribute to departmental administration and academic governance, serving as a member of relevant committees and Senate, and supporting institutional goals through active participation at departmental, faculty and university levels. Assist with the recruitment, selection and registration of students in accordance with academic standards; engage in community outreach, professional partnerships, raise research funding and capacity‑building activities that enhance the visibility and societal impact of the department; provide academic leadership within the discipline; and perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by superiors in support of departmental and institutional objectives.
Job Requirements
A Doctorate (NQF level 10) in Environmental Health or Health Sciences or related field with seven (7) years’ relevant experience in research, teaching and learning, and/or industry. A distinguished research profile comprising twenty-five (25) accredited publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters, conference proceedings, patents, or other forms of recognised intellectual outputs, of which ten (10) must have been published within the last five (5) years. Proven success in supervising seven (7) postgraduate students at NQF Level 9 or 10, of which at least one (1) doctoral graduate (NQF 10), and at least three (3) Master’s graduates supervised as main supervisor. A proven track record of securing funding for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, with evidence of successfully securing competitive grants, leading research initiatives, and contributing to curriculum development and review. Evidence of sustained collaborative partnerships within the past five (5) years, including joint postgraduate supervision, teaching, and learning collaborations, and engagement in joint research and innovation projects with local or international universities, research institutions, NGOs, communities, or industry partners. Excellent English communication skills, strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities, and proficiency in relevant technologies. Provide a comprehensive portfolio of evidence demonstrating meaningful contributions to institutional development, including policy development, strategic planning, curriculum review and development, accreditation and quality assurance processes, and capacity building initiatives. Demonstrated competence in developing high-quality course materials and the ability to teach at least three (3) of the following modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Environmental Protection and Safety, Air pollution and Noise, as well as Environmental Quality Management. Evidence of strong academic leadership, the ability to build and sustain professional networks, maintainrobust links with industry, and contribute significantly to the advancement of postgraduate programmes, along with a commitment to community engagement and professional service within the field of specialisation. A Google Scholar h-index of 10 will be an advantage. The candidate should be registered or registrable with the Health Professional Council of Namibia.

All qualifications must be certified by the Police within the last three (3) months. A Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Conduct) not older than six (6) months must accompany all applications. All foreign qualifications must be validated by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA). The normal retirement age is 65. Non-Namibian candidates who are deemed suitable for appointment will be offered a contract of five (5) years. Only applications submitted via the Direct-Hire system will be considered. Internal staff members must have successfully completed their probationary period to be eligible for consideration for any vacant position.
