Pharmacy Clinical Specialist - NICU

As a Pharmacy Clinical Specialist in NICU at Cleveland Clinic, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our neonatal intensive care team within a collaborative, family-oriented hospital environment. In this decentralized position, you’ll round with the care team to review charts, provide expert drug information, assist with new admissions and partner closely with physicians to ensure safe and effective medication therapy for our most vulnerable patients. You’ll also respond to code and rapid events while staying current with emerging clinical literature. A caregiver in this role will work 8:30am-5pm. Weekend every 9th week end 7:00am to 3:30pm. No float or holiday expectations. On call requirements occur every other Monday through Sunday.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition. 

• Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals. 

• Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs. 

• Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities. 

• Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-Graduate Trainees and other caregivers in Pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy and completion of a post-graduate residency or fellowship training required.

• Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire   

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire (if administering immunizations) 

• Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Board certification 
• PGY-2 in Pediatrics or NICU
• Prior experience with maternal medicine
