Pediatric OR Clinical Education/Resource Specialist

Location: Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 4x10s or 5x8s
Department: Pediatric Operating Room | Level I Trauma Center

Position Summary:

Are you a dynamic perioperative RN with a passion for education and pediatrics? We’re seeking a Clinical Education/Resource Specialist to lead and elevate training efforts in our high-acuity Pediatric Operating Room. This role is ideal for a seasoned OR nurse who thrives in teaching, mentoring, and driving clinical excellence in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing education, onboarding, and clinical support for approximately 100 FTEs in a Level I Pediatric Trauma OR
  • Collaborate with OR leadership and educators to assess staff competencies, develop training programs, and support performance improvement initiatives
  • Function as a resource and clinical expert for pediatric perioperative practice, guiding both novice and experienced staff
  • Ensure compliance with evidence-based practices and support Magnet and accreditation readiness through education and documentation
  • Participate in quality initiatives and champion a culture of safety and continuous learning

What We’re Looking For:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with active [Insert State] license
  • 3–5 years of recent Operating Room experience
  • 3–5 years of experience as a preceptor, charge RN, or in a leadership/educator role
  • Pediatric experience required (can be bedside or OR)
  • Experience in high-acuity, fast-paced OR environments strongly preferred
  • Clinical certification (CNOR, CPEN, etc.) preferred or willingness to obtain within 12 months
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and educate diverse clinical teams

Minimum Qualifications

Education: (None)

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current State of Texas license/permit to practice vocational nursing
  • Completion of Basic Life Support; other certification based upon specific nursing unit requirements

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • At least five (5) years clinical experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse

Principal Accountabilities

  • Serves as an educational resource at the service level and for core hospital activities. Assesses, plans, develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates educational needs that are appropriate to target population.
  • Facilitates and coordinates individual learning plans.
  • Promotes team approach to healthcare delivery. Facilitates effective patient education at the service level. Evaluates effectiveness of patient education.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
