Job Overview
The primary function of this temporary position is to guide patients through the health care system on behalf of Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, by conducting community outreach and education and assisting patients with access to breast, cervical, colon, and lung cancer screening services, building and maintaining relationships with community partners/service providers and tracking interventions and outcomes.
The health patient navigator works in partnership with other staff members and clinical staff to proactively identify and provide for patient’s needs. Essential skills include thorough attention to detail, good organizational skills, effective interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, exceptional customer service skills and effective verbal and written communication skills. Some evening and weekend hours required.
This position supports efforts of the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center with regards to research studies applicable to navigated patients. Provide breast health education, identify barriers to screening, reduce known barriers, facilitate appointments, conduct eligibility screening and ensure patient compliance with recommended breast, cervical, colon, and lung cancer screenings. Patient Navigators provide navigation by addressing barriers to care for those needing follow-up services. They also build and maintain community partnerships and provide transportation services.
Work Interactions
This position plays a key role in establishing and maintaining RLC’s reputation in the community and trust with the patient. Often the first contact with the patient, this position is critical in ensuring that patients are informed of critical cancer screenings, are not lost to barriers or unable to receive services. This position reports to the Program Director, supports health programming and utilizes volunteers as appropriate.
Requirements and Qualifications
At least Bachelor’s degree in community health or related field is required.
At least 6 months experience working with medically underserved populations and prior experience in patient navigation training
Ability to read/write in English. Must have flexibility to work at least one day a weekend a month
Proficient in MS Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint along with a working knowledge of Internet usage and research
Working knowledge of office equipment

Pay Range
The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $21.64 - $26.44. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
