SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Menu Nutrition & Compliance Professional plays a strategic role in guiding menu innovation. This contract position ensures all existing and new menu items comply with labeling laws and contain accurate nutritional data, while also contributing upstream during product development to inform innovation decisions. By leveraging deep knowledge of the brandβs target audience, emerging wellness trends, and the better-for-you category, this role helps Tropical Smoothie Cafe anticipate guest needs and strengthen its leadership in health-forward menu offerings.Β
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESΒ
- Consult upstream with menu and culinary teams to ensure new products align with guest expectations, design target needs, and better-for-you trends.
- Provide strategic input on menu innovation initiatives, embedding nutrition, compliance, and wellness considerations from concept through commercialization.
- Advise on opportunities in the supplement and wellness category, recommending partnerships that enhance brand differentiation.
- Partner with QA to validate nutrition, allergen, yield, and ingredient data across menu touchpoints; support maintenance of recipe libraries and nutrition databases in compliance with regulations.
- Provide guidance on labeling laws and nutrition legislation in consultation with QA to anticipate and address regulatory changes.
- Support Communications with speaking points and accurate messaging on nutrition and compliance topics for franchisees, operators, and cross-functional teams.
- Serve as a subject matter expert by monitoring health, wellness, and nutrition trends, competitive activity, and regulatory updates; translate insights into actionable recommendations for menu strategy.
- Provide expertise and timely responses to nutrition-related inquiries from internal teams, restaurants, and field operators.
- The consultant will work an average of approximately 20 hours per month.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelorβs degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- 10+ years of experience in nutrition, menu management, and/or product development in restaurant/foodservice industry.
- Restaurant or foodservice experience preferred. Proficiency with Genesis nutrition software required.
- Strong knowledge of better-for-you trends, wellness categories, and consumer expectations.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to cross-functionally consult at both strategic and executional levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
