Position Purpose 

 

This position develops and implements a health science instructional program that will effectively meet the needs of all students. Health science is a Career and Technology Education (CTE) Pathway in the Health Science Program for the state of South Carolina. Teaching candidates must possess at minimum a bachelor's degree in Health Education or Public Health Pathway plus appropriate work experience in a healthcare setting. Must possess or obtain a SC teaching credential in Health Science. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Completes required reports promptly and accurately.
  • Accepts responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to school.
  • Assumes responsibility for care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the teacher's care.
  • Practices and promotes positive interaction with and among students.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for learning.
  • Adapts and adjusts instructional presentation of subject content to students' needs and interests.
  • Maintains and organizes programs of instruction based on effective long-range plans.
  • Exhibits evidence of effective lesson planning.
  • Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
  • Communicates the lesson objective and its importance to students.
  • Utilizes appropriate and varied teaching techniques and learning activities both in class and out of class.
  • Maintains an effective system of monitoring student progress and informs appropriate persons of such progress.
  • Adheres to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
  • Serves as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
  • Works in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.
  • Maintains a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
  • Complies with all District and School policies and regulations.
  • Pursues professional growth activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the subject being taught.
  • Ability to relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate classroom management strategies appropriate to the learning situation.
  • Ability to assess individual needs and performance.
  • Ability to address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes 

Qualifications/Certification/License:

 

Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.

South Carolina Certification in Health Science Technology.

 

Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule

 

Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject is a plus.
